🌊 A successful and inspiring POSEIDON project meeting in Genoa! 🌊 We are thrilled to share the highlights from our recent POSEIDON project consortium meeting, held last week in the beautiful city of Genoa, Italy. Hosted by RINA, this two-day event was a resounding success, filled with productive discussions, innovative ideas, and strong collaboration. After six months apart, it was wonderful to see each other in person again. Our agenda included #e_methanol_value_chain requirements and barriers, demonstration and tests, scenarios for local value chain implementation in the ports of #Thessaloniki and #Valencia, the innovative ICODOS technology for e-methanol production and its digital twin, and the development a comprehensive modelling tool, essential for evaluating various value chain scenarios.  We seized the opportunity to dive into dynamic and engaging workshops., focused on strengthening collaboration between the work packages and ensuring that everything is aligned, in particular between the tasks linked to the value chain requirements and barriers and those linked to assessments of the value chain, and between the construction of the ICODOS pilot plant and the adaptation of the EDF test platform. We also held the project’s 3rd general assembly and presented an update of project results to our advisory board members. This was a crucial moment to gather valuable feedback and ensure alignment with our strategic goals.    🚢Visit to FINCANTIERI CETENA:  Learning and bonding:  At POSEIDON, we always strive to make the most of our in-person meetings. After quickly capturing a group picture, we headed to CETENA S.p.A. - Centro per gli Studi di Tecnica Navale (a subsidiary of our project partner FINCANTIERI), a renowned research and consultancy center in the naval and maritime field. Here, we visited CETENA’s simulation laboratory and experienced their advanced simulators allowing ship captains and pilots to manoeuvre virtual ships as if it were real life situations. This cutting-edge technology, which combines virtual and augmented reality, offers immersive training in a fully integrated simulation environment. It was fascinating to see how mixed reality can support complex operations and maintenance. 🙏 Special thanks:  A heartfelt thank you to our project partner RINA, especially to Luca Ricci and Roberta Montesano for their exceptional support and hospitality.  A special thank you to Giovanni Battista Spallarossa, Arianna Irace and Elena Fabbi for organizing the insightful visit at CETENA.   This meeting was a testament to our collective dedication and the power of collaboration. 📢📢📢 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 🔛 Second High level training day in Venice, working within the framework of DIGITPORTS Project Interreg Italy-Croatia Yesterday, the afternoon advanced training session on the application of Digital Twins (DT) in port ecosystems continued with a panel of speakers providing important experiences and contributions based on practical cases. Matteo De Minicis explained how the integration of GIS with other digital tools can save time and effort, as well as optimize environmental sustainability. He pointed out how DT can improve construction site management, highlighting the potential use of drone products, GIS and BIM system, and so on. He also presented a detailed case study on the use of CAD2GIS technology. Monica Oliveira from Esri Portugal subtle that “geographic intelligence” is the basis of 80-90% of decision-making processes for port and maritime logistics management and gave a quick revision on the DT concept. She stated that “DT is a system that you need to have a vision to build” and emphasized GIS as the “foundation of DT”. Nuno Alves from Esri Portugal then discussed the use of the Nexus location intelligence platform at the Port of Sines, stressing its value as the common ground for a DT and providing insightful examples on its practical applications. Maria Grazia Socievole and Daniele Milazzo from CETENA S.p.A. - Centro per gli Studi di Tecnica Navale discussed the significant evolution of ship simulation over time, and highlighted the dynamic and interactive nature of simulation technologies today. DT enable the simulation, monitoring, and optimization of port operations in real-time, with human-in-the-loop integration to enhance efficiency, safety and sustainability. Ian K. emphasized the importance of bringing stakeholders together to share meaningful and open data, to communicate key topics to the public, and to build trust and advocacy with leadership ("Maps are stories to share"). He then explored the best practices in stakeholder engagement from the Port of London, the Port of Rotterdam, and the Immerse project. Leonida Bucci discussed the “DT way of communicating”, refering to DT as the vital component for internal communication. He claimed that the use of DT technologies can facilitate fast, accurate, and risk-managed collaborations among the Port’s stakeholders. Dražen Vrhovski provided some concluding remarks to the training session, emphasizing once again the value of DT as an integrative element. He then identified the typical challenges to be addressed and pointed out the way forward, emphasizing that the #DIGITPORTS project represents the beginning and a fundamental part of a journey that must be continued over time with determination, focus, coordination and resources for an increasingly efficient, transparent and green future of the entire Ports ecosystem.

La Capitaneria di Porto - Guardia Costiera e l’Autorità di Sistema portuale del Mar Ligure Orientale forniscono alcune precisazioni per chiarire la situazione, e rassicurare cittadini e operatori del settore, sulla fattibilità, da parte delle navi da crociera, di poter ormeggiare in piena sicurezza presso il molo Garibaldi, considerato lo stato di avanzamento dei lavori a maggio 2025 del realizzando molo crociere, nel caso in cui non fosse stato ancora completato il livellamento del fondale del primo bacino portuale. Le attività di pianificazione relative alla contemporaneità dei lavori e all’operatività delle navi da crociera sono state oggetto, infatti, di un’attenta e approfondita analisi da parte della Capitaneria di Porto in collaborazione con l’Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Orientale e con l’ausilio dei Servizi Tecnico Nautici. Questo studio, condotto con l’obiettivo primario di garantire la sicurezza della navigazione e l’efficienza delle operazioni, ha tenuto conto di ogni variabile significativa, dalla disposizione delle aree di cantiere alla gestione dello spazio di manovra. Un passaggio fondamentale di questa analisi è stato rappresentato dalle simulazioni di manovra, coordinate dalla Capitaneria di Porto, con l’ausilio dei Piloti del porto ed alla presenza dei tecnici di ADSP, della società concessionaria del servizio di rimorchio, del Terminalista di Spezia&Carrara Cruise Terminal e dei comandanti delle principali compagnie crocieristiche ( MSC Cruises, Costa Crociere S.p.A. e Royal Caribbean Group) effettuate presso il centro specializzato CETENA S.p.A. - Centro per gli Studi di Tecnica Navale sito nella città di #Genova, struttura riconosciuta a livello internazionale per la valutazione tecnica e operativa in ambito marittimo. Tali esiti confermano quindi che le navi potranno continuare ad operare regolarmente presso il Molo Garibaldi Ovest nel porto della Spezia, senza compromettere le normali attività di realizzazione del nuovo molo crociere né la sicurezza di tutti gli altri operatori.

Siamo stati onorati di ospitare nei nostri uffici l’Amm. Vito Lacerenza e il CV Daniele Ruggieri. È stata un'opportunità preziosa per presentare le attività e le soluzioni tecnologiche di CETENA e del gruppo FINCANTIERI, con un focus specifico sul mondo #underwater.  Abbiamo illustrato le nostre iniziative e attività ingegneristiche in corso, a supporto della progettazione dei nuovi #sommergibili della #MMI, e le tecnologie digitali sviluppate per la formazione del personale di bordo e per il supporto operativo. This approach involves designing, building, and operating vessels with AI embedded at every stage, which not only optimizes efficiency and safety but also opens new possibilities for sustainability and operational innovation” During the plenary session of the Saudi International Maritime Forum 2024, titled "The Government's Initiatives to Regulate AI in the Maritime Field", our VP Cyber Security and #ePhors CEO Daniele Francesco Ali addressed the key opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence in the maritime sector and improve the operational efficiency, safety and overall performance of our units and shipyards. Together with our subsidiary Fincantieri Arabia for Naval Services LCC, we participated in this prestigious event, a significant opportunity to meet the main institutional and industrial players in the maritime sector of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to present how we use AI in the fields of Cyber Security and Training & Simulation. Ieri, martedì 19 novembre, il nostro Amministratore Delegato Massimo Debenedetti ha partecipato al 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 della Fondazione Accademia Italiana della Marina Mercantile per parlare di innovazione digitale e del futuro della formazione del personale di bordo. Durante il suo intervento, ha evidenziato l'importanza degli investimenti nella #BlueEconomy e nelle professioni del mare, con un focus particolare sulla transizione digitale ed energetica a bordo delle navi. Ha inoltre illustrato le road map che FINCANTIERI sta perseguendo in qualità di digital design authority della nave. Ha poi sottolineato come la tecnologia stia trasformando la formazione dei giovani ufficiali, migliorando le competenze necessarie per affrontare le sfide moderne. L'uso di strumenti di #simulazione, realtà virtuale (#VR) e realtà aumentata (#AR) permette ai futuri ufficiali di addestrarsi in ambienti sicuri e controllati, replicando scenari complessi e situazioni di emergenza senza rischi reali. Questo approccio immersivo consente loro di apprendere le procedure operative ancor prima di salire a bordo.
