Next up in our series celebrating women of Dorchester Collection, we're bringing you an interview with Alice Manzini from Hotel Principe di Savoia, Dorchester Collection. #IWD Tell us about your current role and what led you here. My career in hospitality began when I was a child, my family owned a restaurant for over 50 years and I literally grew up there! Over the years, I discovered the importance of taking care of every detail, the joy of seeing our guests smile and shake hands before they leave, and I realized that that was the world I wanted to live in. At Principe, I am Guest Services & Research Manager, but mostly I feel like a host, welcoming people into my home. When you live something as if it were your own, everything takes on a deeper meaning and a different perspective. My team and I work behind the scenes every day. We know our guests before anyone else in the hotel; we reach out to them and become the people they can rely on to creating their perfect experience. What challenges have you experienced as a woman in your role, and how have you overcome them? In 2020, when the Principe reopened after the pandemic, in a completely twisted world, I was promoted to my current position. My challenge was to create a new office within the guest centric movement, I had some very different personalities in my team, and they were asked to do something never done before - have you ever heard about a taskmaster office in a Hotel? Apart from the operational challenge, the biggest personal challenge was to be recognized, heard, and ultimately trusted by my team and senior management. It is not easy to speak up, especially as a young woman in a key role. I worked hard to improve my technical skills and learned a lot about emotional intelligence through DC trainings. The turning point came quite naturally when I started to trust my feelings and impressions and became able to translate them into real-life decisions and work situations. What advice would you give to a woman starting their career? Don't forget to love and trust yourself: no one is perfect, accept that and allow yourself to make mistakes. Build wholesome connections and choose a living environment that will let you bloom. Who is your female role model and why? Prosaically, I’d say my mother. She inspires me even in the most difficult times: thinking of her goodness and integrity makes me able to scale down and see clearly again. #BelongToTheLegend #WhyWeCare #CreateYourLegacy
