Yesterday we had the opportunity to attend the FI Campus 2024 event in #Brussels held by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) (EIB) Advisory Services Department. Being invited as main speaker, our #Linearbeam CEO Michele Diaferia joined the session titled "Measuring the impact of financial instruments" to illustrate the concrete impact of european #financialinstruments on our "ERHA Project" which aims to deliver the first #protontherapy system ever based on a #linearaccelerator of #protons. #ERHA - Enhanced Radiotherapy with HAdrons was in fact supported with €14.9 million #equityinvestment, a financial operation which involved Equiter Spa as investor partner, through the Research and Innovation Fund of the Italian Ministry of University and Research (#MUR), together with the European Investment Bank acting as HF as part of the National Operational Programme "Research and Innovation". This is one of the most significant investment given for #research and #development projects to an Italian company ever, still a major best practice in #technology #innovation and med-tech applications in #healthcare.

Chi siamo
Linearbeam è uno spin-off del Gruppo ITEL, dedicato allo sviluppo di un sistema completo di protonterapia basato su un acceleratore di protoni lineare (p-Linac). Il progetto "ERHA" vede ITEL impegnata dal 2009 su questioni strettamente legate alla generazione e all'accelerazione dei fasci di protoni. Grazie ad importanti investimenti e ai piani operativi nazionali e regionali, ITEL ha raggiunto l'obiettivo di realizzare un prototipo di p-Linac, proiettandosi all'avanguardia nella ricerca in protonterapia a livello internazionale. Linearbeam eredita tutti gli asset, il know-how e la proprietà intellettuale dei risultati della ricerca finora raggiunti da ITEL negli ultimi anni, dalle problematiche di meccatronica all'accelerazione delle particelle, al software di controllo integrato e al monitoraggio delle radiazioni. La società ha ricevuto un investimento di 14,9 milioni di euro dal fondo RIF (Ricerca e Innovazione) sostenuto da Equiter. Il piano di investimento del progetto copre un orizzonte temporale di 4 anni e mira al completamento del P-Linac fino all'impiego della tecnologia per uso clinico. Il sistema che verrà sviluppato presenterà caratteristiche innovative rispetto ai sistemi di generazione di protoni basati su ciclotroni e sincrotroni. Le prestazioni ottiche del fascio di protoni prodotto da un p-Linac sono infatti superiori a quelle prodotte dagli acceleratori circolari. Un ulteriore importante vantaggio competitivo che il sistema consentirà risiede nella possibilità di potenziare l'impianto partendo da una sala di trattamento ed eventualmente aggiungendone ulteriori in fasi successive. Infine, la natura "green" della tecnologia Linearbeam ne fa una soluzione economicamente sostenibile per il futuro centro di protonterapia ospitante, avendo un costo di smaltimento a fine vita notevolmente inferiore rispetto agli acceleratori circolari. Con queste premesse, Linearbeam si propone quale player italiano strategico nel mercato globale della protonterapia.

E-Poster Session at the 62nd Annual Conference of the Particle Therapy Cooperative Group in #Singapore has been an amazing opportunity to present the disruptive innovation of the #protontherapy system developed by Linearbeam - Protons for Life as part of #ERHA project (Enhanced Radiotherapy with Hadrons). Our #technology is the first commercially available solution for #cancertreatment based on #linear #protonaccelerator: the LB230 system. Through the poster “The Advantages and Challenges of the Proton Linac for Clinical Dose Delivery”, we introduced the most innovative clinical/technical capabilities and significant features of ERHA protontherapy, compared with other proton generation systems. These include fast energy modulation (for depth), fast intensity modulation (for dose) and small beam spot dimensions. Typical results from #beam tests in progress at #Linearbeam facility in #Italy have been presented by our team, which illustrate measured energy, energy spread and beam spot size thus highlighting the interesting characteristics of a next generation beam produced by a #linearaccelerator of #protons. Today, Ambassador of Italy Dante Brandi and Scientific Attaché Nicola Bianchi took part to the opening session of the #PTCOG62 Conference at #Suntec. The opening speech was delivered on behalf and at the presence of the former #President of the Republic of Singapore Tony Tan Keng Yam, who, being a physicist by university education, launched the #protontherapy program in Singapore less than 20 years ago. The Conference is the most important annual event regarding prototherapy technology that uses particle accelerators to treat many types of cancer. It has been attended by about 1300 scientists from all over the world. Italy is a leading country in this sector, co-chairing the Conference with Prof. Marco Durante and participating with around 40 italian scientists, including the Director General of the Centro Nazionale di Adroterapia Oncologica (CNAO), Sandro Rossi. CNAO is among the few centers in the world which can deliver, in addition to protons, carbon ion beams as well. Two Italian companies, Linearbeam - Protons for Life and DETECTOR Devices & Technologies Torino were also present, presenting their cutting-edge technology. #Italy #Singapore #cancertreatment
