In the heart of Cuba, Finca del Medio, a family-run farm, transformed abandoned land into a beacon of sustainability and self-sufficiency. Through agroecological practices, they restored soil health, achieved 100% energy independence, and became a model for resilient food systems. As part of Slow Food Farms, they show how small farms worldwide can fight the climate crisis, inspire policy change, and lead the transition to sustainable agriculture. What if the food on your plate carried hidden costs for animals, the planet, and people? These powerful films pull back the curtain on the realities of intensive farming, exposing the environmental toll of dairy production and the systemic issues that keep harmful practices in place. They explore the daunting challenge of feeding 10 billion people by 2050, question the corporate greenwashing of "sustainable" products, and show how small, mindful changes — like reducing waste in our kitchens and closets — can make a difference. These stories are a wake-up call, but they’re also filled with hope. They remind us that by rethinking our choices, we can build a food system that truly nourishes the earth and everyone on it. 🌍 Which one are you most curious to watch? This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women who cultivate more than just food — they grow resilience, preserve ancestral knowledge, and nourish entire communities. From tending heritage orchards in Scotland to cultivating medicinal plants in Uganda, these women are not only farmers but guardians of biodiversity and stewards of the earth. 🌍 Yet, despite their essential role in food systems, many face limited land rights, wage gaps, and exclusion from decision-making spaces. Slow Food Farms is changing that by amplifying their voices and fostering agroecological practices rooted in equity and justice. “Women are like Mother Earth — we nurture, cultivate, and sustain.” Read the full article to discover how these women are sowing the seeds of a more just and sustainable future for all: https://lnkd.in/erPWnn4f #SlowFood #WomenInAg #Agroecology #FoodJustice #IWD2025

Our current food systems are fuelling climate change, harming animals, endangering human health, polluting our environment, and destroying biodiversity. But it doesn’t have to be this way. 🌱 Change starts with awareness — and action. Let’s work towards a food system that respects animals, protects ecosystems, and sustains communities. 📩 Want to learn more about how to bring the Food On Film Project to your school? #SlowFoodFarms are a powerful response to the climate and environmental crisis — bringing farmers together to protect biodiversity, preserve traditional crops, and promote sustainable, agroecological practices. This month, we’re spotlighting Alwana Natural Farm in Uganda, run by Slow Food’s president, Edward Mukiibi, and his family. On their six acres, they cultivate over 20 banana varieties, rare beans, coffee, vanilla, and more — all while regenerating soil, conserving seeds, and honoring ancestral farming wisdom. By choosing to work with nature, these farms prove that small-scale, diverse, and local food systems can build resilience and nourish communities worldwide. Find out more about this project on the link below and join us in celebrating these farmers leading the way to a better future! https://lnkd.in/e95et4-8 #SlowFood #Agroecology #SustainableFarming #ClimateAction #LocalFood #FoodSovereignty

Every year, we waste enough food to tower over Mount Everest — while millions go hungry. Food waste isn’t just a moral issue; it fuels climate change, driving up emissions and threatening our planet’s future. But what if fighting food waste could be delicious, fun, and full of "disco"? 🌍 Enter World Disco Soup Day! A global event by Slow Food Youth Network where communities gather to cook meals from food scraps, raise awareness, and dance the night away — all while taking action for a sustainable food system. Mark your calendars for April 26 and join the movement. Let’s turn leftovers into love, beats into change, and food waste into a thing of the past. https://lnkd.in/dTYGPZnR 🍲✨ Because every peel, stem, and crust is a chance to nourish the world. #WorldDiscoSoupDay #SaveOurFood #FightFoodWaste #SlowFoodYouth #ClimateAction

Supermarkets = more waste, less transparency, and weaker local economies. Local markets = fresh, fair, and community-driven. 80%+ of people want better access to sustainable, local food—but change isn’t happening fast enough. That’s where The #BeautiFood Project comes in. We’re bringing citizens and decision-makers together to push for local markets, better food policies, and a fairer food system. Want to be part of the change? Shop local, speak up, and demand action. BEAUTIFOOD’s creative and inclusive events take place all around Europe to engage citizens in games and discussions about the impact of our food system on the environment, climate, and public health.
