We’re thrilled to be embarking on a new project to support the IOM’s vital community-based work in Ethiopia 🇪🇹 We will be reviewing tools and resources from the IOM - UN Migration’s highly successful Community Conversations programme and using these insights to develop better-targeted tools adapted to different users’ needs and easily replicable at the local level. Our involvement in this project not only highlights our commitment to human centred design approaches🧍, but also enables us to uphold our commitment to localised and context-driven responses 🌍 Read more about the Community Conversations programme 👉https://lnkd.in/e-EiJ49q Stay tuned here for more project updates! 📢 #participation #community #humancentreddesign #localisation #sbc

Advancing women’s leadership and voices in Jordan 🇯🇴 MAGENTA has been working with Mercy Corps in Jordan to design a national social and behavioural change communication (SBCC) strategy for promoting women’s meaningful participation in the public and private spheres. 🧕Although making significant strides in education, healthcare, and economic development, Jordan faces the challenge of deeply entrenched gender norms and societal expectations that profoundly impact Jordanian women. 🔎 We conducted research to understand the behaviours that women wish they had more control over. We found that the concept of mobility was crucial for advancing agency and decision-making; the key barrier for women’s access to opportunities and fulfilling their potential is women’s ability to decide if, where, when, and how to get out of their home. 📣 The SBCC strategy will support the USAID’s five year Promoting the Voice and Leadership (PVLW) activity in achieving its key objectives to strengthen legislative framework enforcement and institutional capacity, increase adoption of inclusive social norms, and enhance women’s skills and opportunities for voice and leadership. The UN’s SDG for August is Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions 🕊️ Rising conflicts and violent organised crime around the world continue to undermine progress towards targets in this area and broader sustainable development goals. MAGENTA’s portfolio in the space of addressing organised crime is continually growing, with new projects recently launched in Honduras and Ecuador 🇭🇳 🇪🇨 In Ecuador, we are conducting important research to support UNICEF’s mission to prevent the recruitment and use of children and adolescents by organised crime groups in the country. In Honduras, we will be designing and developing a campaign with UNHCR to sensitize, inform and raise awareness among decision makers, families, children, adolescents and the general population about forced recruitment by Organized Crime Groups (OCG) as a serious violation of rights, and forced displacement as one of the main impacts of forced recruitment of children and their families. Our approach to addressing organised crime is to tackle the stigmatisation of, and negative perceptions surrounding, its victims. This method ensures that societal attitudes are shifted and that victims are given a supportive environment in which to exercise their rights. #organisedcrime #latinamerica #sdg #sbc

We’re thrilled to be embarking on a new project with the IOM - UN Migration in Egypt 🇪🇬 around advancing and strengthening community engagement. We will be supporting the IOM’s commitment to community-driven solutions by developing a comprehensive community engagement strategy (CES) that will enhance the synergies between IOM and local Community-Based Organisations (CBOs). The CES will better respond to the protection needs of communities, mitigate vulnerability factors, and contribute to the sustainable development of migrant communities in Egypt. For this project, we will be putting into action our community-centred approach which includes: -       Participatory research -       Co-design workshops -       Capacity building -       Focus on sustainability Stay tuned here for more project updates! #communityengagement #migration #sbc

As millions of children and young people around the world start preparing to return to school, we are reflecting on the dire reality for 1.5 million Afghan girls. Afghanistan 🇦🇫 is currently the only country in the world to ban girls over the age of 12 years from going to school ✏️ Since the return of the Taliban regime in August 2021, Afghan girls have lost over 1000 days of school – that’s a staggering 3 billion hours of learning ⏰ MAGENTA stands with Afghan girls and joins other organisations in calling for an immediate resumption of children’s learning. Education is not only vital for safeguarding women’s equal participation in society, but also protects girls from early marriage, malnutrition, and other health problems and bolsters their resilience to disasters like the floods, drought, and earthquakes that frequently plague Afghanistan. Yesterday was World Humanitarian Day. 2023 was the deadliest year on record for humanitarian workers, with 2024 predicted to be even worse. The UN reported that as of April 2024, 254 aid workers had been killed in Gaza since 7 October 2023. Humanitarian workers provide lifesaving support to vulnerable and marginalised populations during disasters, war, and other extreme events. Without them, millions of people are at greater risk. MAGENTA is committed to supporting humanitarian workers. We have been working with the World Health Organization to design, develop, and adapt community conversation kits for use in healthcare emergencies across the globe. We designed an Arabic version of the previous CCKs that we developed in Mexico to support the WHO’s rapid response training for health workers programming in Gaza. #ActForHumanity

MAGENTA - challenging digital gender-based violence in Mexico through community art Community art is an extremely powerful tool for fostering deeper reflections and thinking and sparking conversations. In our project, we're utilising this tool to gather young men to discuss something they wouldn't otherwise talk about and to support feminist organisations working with young men on prevention. Our LAC team has been working with our CSO partners in Oaxaca and Estado de Mexico (Organización Feminista Lilas, Defensa, Acción y Justicia para las Mujeres, A.C., Asamblea Vecinal Nos Queremos Vivas Neza) to organise arts-based community activations. In both locations, we organised community painting of incredible murals and spontaneous rap and theatre, aiming to encourage men to recognise that sending nudes without consent is a form of violence and that it does not make them look cool, quite the opposite. Participants expressed a profound change in their perspectives on digital gender-based violence following the events, including one participant who said 'I think the most important thing is that we should be aware as a society, that we should be more empathetic people.' These community activations are part of our ongoing project to address digital gender-based violence in Mexico through strong partnerships with local CSOs. #community #art #mural #sbc

Alongside our partners at MAGENTA and UNICEF Iraq, Firsthand is supporting a project to understand the social and behavioural drivers that encourage or create barriers to breastfeeding and immunisation practices in two communities. Before we can identify opportunities that enable sustainable behavior change, we must first understand barriers to action. In yesterday’s poll, many of you shared that cultural stigmas & beliefs are a key driver that affects breastfeeding practices — and you're right! Often, it is not a matter of mothers choosing or not choosing to breastfeed, but rather a long list of decisions that are made throughout many stages: before birth, immediately after birth, continuing until recommended age, and seeking assistance when things go wrong. The next step is participatory research, centering mothers' lived experiences to map existing behaviors, barriers, and opportunities. We're looking forward to learning more with & from our partners and community members. #WorldBreastfeedingWeek #culturalstigmas #Firsthand
