#MitsubishiPower is installing a state-of-art steam turbine at the Darajat Geothermal Power Plant in Indonesia and will provide support for long-term maintenance. This retrofit will increase the plant’s output capacity by 8 MW, from 121 MW to 129 MW. #MitsubishiPower has completed the construction of a 50MW woody biomass-fired power plant in Hyuga, Miyazaki Prefecture, successfully delivering the facility on schedule. This project, developed through an EPC contract led by MHI Group, includes a steam turbine, circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler, generator, and other high-efficiency power generation equipment. Improving power generation and fuel efficiency will further reduce the plant's environmental impact. Mitsubishi Power has completed work on a landmark 5,300 MW GTCC Power Plant Project in Thailand, a joint venture of Gulf Group and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. The eighth and final M701JAC gas turbine began operation on October 1. This project marks our largest-ever completed order in terms of capacity. The previous seven M701JAC gas turbines installed across two GTCC plants in Rayong and Chonburi Provinces have collectively operated for 100,000 hours. #Gasturbines are playing a crucial role in #energytransition by maximizing the efficiency of natural gas as a "transition fuel" and being adapted to fire alternative fuels, such as hydrogen and ammonia. #MitsubishiPower has carried out the world’s first and largest hydrogen co-firing trial to date using a JAC series turbine and is aiming to commercialize 100% hydrogen firing by 2030. We are also planning to commercialize 100% hydrogen and ammonia firing in small- and medium-sized gas turbines around 2025. We caught up this week with our MENA President Khalid Salem who shared his outlook on the region’s power requirements during #MitsubishiPower’s participation in the World Utilities Congress 2024, hosted by TAQA Group. With the region’s exponential rise in electricity demand driven by economic growth and the drive for #decarbonization, Khalid highlighted the importance of partnerships, showcasing successful collaborations across #SaudiArabia, #UAE, #Egypt, and #Kuwait, which are propelling key projects and supporting national visions like the UAE’s Vision 2050 and Saudi Arabia Vision 2030. Do you know solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs) can theoretically produce more #hydrogen per kW than any other type of electrolyzer? That’s why SOECs have been attracting growing attention as an additional path for generating carbon-free hydrogen. We are aiming to commercialize large modular SOECs with an overall efficiency of 90%, designed for plants in the several hundred megawatt range, by the end of the decade.
