Innocent Onah, PhD (African Development Bank Group): Shared insights on how the AfDB is exploring adaptation finance opportunities under Article 6.8 of the Paris Agreement by leveraging non-market mechanisms to drive nature investment across Africa. . He also noted that the six key recommendations of the biocredits study are fully applicable to the AfDB Adaptation Benefits Mechanism. Prof. Dr. Martin R. Stuchtey (The Landbanking Group): Stressed recognizing biodiversity on financial balance sheets to transform nature into an investment class, advocating reinvestment in natural assets. Tapiwa Makiwa (CCFN Community Conservation Fund of Namibia): Emphasized the role of local knowledge for transparency and real-time monitoring, bridging global markets with grassroots conservation. Cain Blythe (CreditNature): Introduced the concept of a regional biocredit producers association to stabilize markets and enhance equitable pricing structures, driven by community inclusion and fair consent. The event’s insights mark a significant step in shaping Africa’s biodiversity credit markets, enabling nature-positive solutions across the continent. 🌍 Access the full report here: https://lnkd.in/djdFG-2G Monique Atouguia, Dorothy Maseke ,CFIRM, Biggie Tangane, Hosborn Wamukoya, FSD Africa

A collaborative forum mobilising the financial community against the risk of nature loss in Africa.
About us
The African Natural Capital Alliance (ANCA) is a collaborative forum for mobilising the financial community’s response to the risk of nature loss in Africa. We bring together a core group of financial institutions, governmental organisations, intergovernmental partners, and civil society representatives. This group is joined by a wider set of members from both the public and private sectors who support the ANCA’s aim of ensuring better integration of nature into financial decision making. The alliance was established by FSD Africa and has support from the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the United Kingdom’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA). We are also working with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) in order to provide an African voice in the development of TNFD’s reporting framework for nature-related risk and opportunities.

🌍 Week One of COP16: Spotlight on Nature-Based Solutions in Africa! ANCA proudly hosted a session on “Nature-Based Solutions in Africa: Unlocking the Potential of Nature Finance” at COP16 in Cali, Colombia. This event convened some of the brightest minds in nature finance to discuss innovative solutions that tackle the intertwined challenges of biodiversity loss, climate change, and environmental degradation across Africa. Here’s a snapshot of the critical insights shared: Dorothy Maseke ,CFIRM (ANCA) emphasized the need for transformational financing solutions that address the triple crises in Africa while securing socioeconomic well-being. Razan Al Mubarak (IUCN) noted the vital link between nature and climate, reminding us that “climate is a symptom of nature mismanaged.” Her call to action? Drive finance flows to those on the ground, operationalizing the goals of 30x30 and deforestation halts. Helge Mahne (African Parks Network) identified a $200 billion funding gap, advocating for a results-based funding mechanism, which African Parks is piloting through its verifiable nature units across several African parks. Lydia Zemke (EarthAcre) showcased EarthAcre’s success in delivering direct, auditable payments for nature stewardship in southern Kenya, advancing community-led conservation. Pauline Nantongo (Ecotrust) highlighted a “Landscape Restoration as a Business Model,” empowering 42,000 smallholder farmers with business plans linked to carbon markets, enhancing economic resilience. Marília dos Reis Martins (CrossBoundary Group) spoke on capital mobilization through their Fund for Nature and highlighted projects like Africa’s largest blue carbon initiative in Mozambique, projected to create 5,000 jobs. She emphasized that "...we need to treat nature as infrastructure, and infrastructure that needs infrastructure-like investments." Puninda Thind (High-Level Climate Champions) urged for systemic financial realignment to prioritize nature-positive actions and noted the need for nature to be recognized as a key asset on financial balance sheets. Key Takeaway: Africa has investable, impactful nature-based solutions. Now, it’s time to mobilize the capital required to scale these solutions and support Africa’s journey towards a sustainable and resilient future. The State of Nature Metrics do not replace existing frameworks and guidance that many actors are already using, but instead identify the most practical and credible state of nature metrics currently available then seeks to embed them within those frameworks. Nature Positive Initiative has launched a consultation for the state of nature metrics. See link below on how you can respond to the consultation. ⬇
Standardized metrics for nature are crucial to drive action and measure whether we’re making matters better or worse. That's why we have launched a consultation for state of nature metrics - to bring credible and practical measurability to nature positive.
