#AWEIK in partnership with Global Financial Integrity, Oxfam and Africa Uncensored recently organized a transformative two-day training for journalists- with focus on #empowering journalists to craft compelling #narratives that drive positive change in the #naturalresource sector in Kenya. Recognizing the #pivotal role the media plays as a watchdog, we delved into the significance of adopting an in-depth approach when covering the extractive sector. The training aimed to equip journalists with the skills needed to navigate the #complexities of the industry, emphasizing a commitment to #ethical and #professional reporting. #AWEIK and its partners sole aim for the training was to foster a #collaborative and #informed community of journalists dedicated to shedding light on #criticalissues within the Extractives sector in Kenya and Africa including illicit financial flows and beneficial ownership. Congratulations to Michelle Mwambela, #AWEIK’s Programs Manager for receiving a scholarship to attend the Executive course on Oil, Gas, and Mining Governance in Emerging Markets led by Professor Paul Collier at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford in collaboration with Natural Resource Governance Institute. She is joined by Rajneesh Bhuee, Extractives Program Officer at Oxfam and Mukupa Nsenduluka, Policy Manager at Tax Justice Network Africa and other global practitioners in the Oil, Gas and mining spaces. This course is a valuable opportunity to gain insights into the technical policy aspects of resource management and the intricate relationships between governments, companies, and citizens in the context of oil, gas, and mining in emerging markets. It is a wonderful chance for them to expand their knowledge and contribute to better governance in these sectors.
