  • Our Agribusiness Coordinator based in Makueni County, Lydhia Kiswii, took center stage in representing the youth at the 2nd Eastern Africa Agroecology Conference. The youth make up a majority of the Kenyan population; however, their employment prospects in agriculture remain limited. Studies indicate that access to training materials, credit facilities, and land is a significant challenge. It is through forums like this that CGA advocates for a more favorable environment for youth in agriculture. #TogetherWeGrow

The second Eastern Africa agroecology conference started yesterday at #Argylegrandhotel and will go on for the next two days My greatest fulfillment is that I was able to speak on youth incentives to participate in agroecology. This was an honor by AGRA to be a #distigushed panelist in an organized side event with a topic "Empowering the next generation: resilient youth enterprise in #RegenerativeAgriculture and #Agroecology" In my presentation, I delivered on both direct and indirect incentives that can motivate youth and shift our mindset as young people into long-term investment in #agroecology. Stay tuned for as I will analyse bits of each incentive. Special thanks to Dr. Jeremiah Rogito Cereal Growers Association Dr. Abednego Mavuthu (PhD) Dr. Mavuthu Kiwia Abednego George Mabuka shadrack Kasonzo Boniface Kamolo for trusting me to deliver this.

Over 9,000 Nyandarua farmers are poised to benefit from best soil testing practices, after His Excellency Governor (Dr.) Moses N. Badilisha Kiarie inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Cereal Growers Association (CGA) today. County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Hon. Francis Miring'u, who put pen to paper on the Governor’s behalf in Rurii Ward, Ol'Kalou Sub-County, revealed that the collaboration will include comprehensive soil testing services to optimize agricultural yield, diseases and pest control. The partnership will also ensure farmers in each of Nyandarua’s 25 wards access certified seeds and markets for farm yields. It comes hot on the heels of the Governor’s recent distribution of subsidized fertilizer for the ongoing short rains and planting season. Hon. Miring’u later accompanied his Chief Officer Mr. Samaul Gitaka and CGA's Business Partnerships and Development Lead Dr. Moses Mwanje to inspect a week-long Trainers of Trainers capacity building of Ward Agricultural Extension Officers on Entrepreneurship Financial Literacy, which is underway with the generous support of CGA and CARE-Kenya.

  • Today, we shine a light on the inspiring story of Josephine Kanini Mutiso, our Village Based Advisor (VBA) from Kathonzweni, Makueni County. Mutiso is an exceptional farmer who uses techniques like deep tillage and zai pits to improve her farm and protect the soil. Mutiso also raises poultry, which is a big boost to her income. She doesn’t stop there—she also teaches her community important skills like how to grow trees in nurseries, start home gardens, and farm vegetables. Mutiso is truly a #powerwoman, making a real difference in her community and showing others the way to a better future. #TogetherWeGrow #internationalwomensday #IWD2025 Anthony Kioko, George Mabuka, Lydhia Kiswii

  • From February 23rd to March 6th, 2025. Our Agribusiness Coordinators from Uasin Gishu and Meru respectively, Sheila Chebichii and Njogo Samuel, MSc, participated in the Multi-Country Agronomy Training in Madagascar. This technical training was led by Delphine BOUTTET (Arvalis) and Andry RASAMIMANANA, with support from Agri-agence Fert & FIFATA FIFATA, and made possible by Agence Française de Développement.  The sessions covered Soil Health & Fertility, Plant Health, and Seed Production, equipping our team with practical knowledge to enhance farmer advisory services in Kenya. Nadège K., Agri-agence Fert Technical Advisor to Kenya, also contributed valuable insights, reinforcing the importance of localized, sustainable solutions.  Key Takeaways: ✅ Soil is the foundation of productivity—structure, acidity correction, and organic matter are crucial for biological activity.   ✅ Safe and efficient agrochemical use enhances weed, pest, and disease management while preventing resistance.   ✅ Close accompaniment and proximity advisory are essential for farmer success and sustainability.  By applying these insights, we aim to improve farmer productivity, increase incomes, and enhance livelihoods. • As we commemorate International Women's Day (IWD) 2025, we shine a spotlight on remarkable women driving meaningful change in their respective fields. Among them is Elizabeth Mulika, a dedicated Farmer Service Center (FSC) from Makueni County, Kenya. Elizabeth embarked on her journey as an FSC in 2020 through the Strengthening Regenerative Agriculture in Kenya (STRAK) project, and her story is one of transformation and empowerment. "Before becoming an FSC, I didn’t fully appreciate the value of farming as I do today," Elizabeth shares. "The exposure and knowledge I’ve gained through this role have opened my eyes to countless opportunities that are now positively impacting my life. Farming has become a lifeline—not just for me, but also for the farmers I work with." In her role as an FSC, Elizabeth has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between local farmers and essential agricultural resources. By connecting farmers directly to inputs and opportunities, she has reduced their reliance on middlemen and distant suppliers, empowering them to take control of their livelihoods. Elizabeth has also expanded her impact by venturing into value addition for High Iron Beans (Nyota). Through this initiative, she creates employment opportunities for young mothers while promoting nutritious food options by increasing the consumption of High Iron Beans. This innovative approach has not only fostered self-reliance for Elizabeth but has also enhanced the sustainability and resilience of smallholder farmers in her community. Her efforts exemplify the transformative power of women in agriculture, showcasing how dedication, innovation, and leadership can create lasting change and improve lives. Elizabeth Mulika is a true inspiration, embodying the spirit of International Women’s Day and the potential of women to drive progress in their communities. #TogetherWeGrow #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction Anthony Kioko, John Macharia, Lydhia Kiswii
