Gabriel Alkali began working with us in 2021 when we supported him to establish his tree nursery in Lambata – Kafin Koro, Nigeria. 🇳🇬 Through technical training, Gabriel quickly mastered the complexities of seedling cultivation and nursery management. His commitment to agroforestry reflects a profound connection to environmental stewardship. 🌍 "I have always had a passion for tree planting. Before joining One Acre Fund, I planted over a hundred trees on my farm." In our Nigeria program, nursery managers like Gabriel earn income based on the volume of tree seedlings they produce. For the 2024 season, Gabriel is cultivating 22,500 seedlings, including high-value species such as cashew, albizia lebbeck, and parkia. This will generate an estimated income of 338,000 Nigerian naira (over $200). 🌱 For Gabriel and the farmers he serves, these seedlings represent more than just trees—they symbolize sustainable livelihoods and environmental regeneration. #MoreThanATree Learn more about his journey and the impact of our Nigeria tree program. 👇🏿

For over a decade, we have partnered with Tanzanian smallholder farmers, a critical component of rural economic development. 🇹🇿 Through our expanding network of dukas (agricultural retail shops) and advisors, we’re implementing solutions that address the evolving needs of local farmers. Key initiatives include: ⭐ Input access and agronomic training: Delivering high-quality seeds, essential agricultural products, and evidence-based training programs designed to optimize crop yields and increase profitability. ⭐ Agroforestry and soil health: Promoting tree planting programs that enhance farmer income, improve soil fertility, and contribute to ecosystem resilience. ⭐ Climate-smart agriculture: Facilitating the adoption of climate-resilient, high-value crops such as sunflowers, macadamias, avocados, and coffee, which improve both environmental sustainability and income diversification. These interventions align with our mission to provide smallholder farmers with the resources they need to increase food production and achieve economic stability.

Avocado exports from Rwanda could increase by over 600% to 16,000 tons annually by 2026*. 🥑 But what happens to the fruits that are rejected? This is where the Smallholder Resilience Ventures (SRV), a subsidiary of One Acre Fund, comes in! 💡 SRV has helped funnel funding and resources to promising small and medium agricultural programs such as this avocado oil plant. This gives value to the otherwise non export grade avocados, making sure the farmers hard work doesn't go to waste. *The Farmer's Journal

We're excited to be supporting the conversation on making regenerative agriculture profitable for smallholder farmers at #NewYorkClimateWeek! Join us as we share key insights from our Zambia pilot, highlighting the path to climate resilience, financial inclusion, and scalable solutions for smallholders. #NYCW #RegenerativeAgriculture #ClimateFinance #Agroforestry #SmallholderFarmers
How do we make regenerative agriculture profitable for smallholder farmers, while ensuring no one is left behind? This Thursday at #NewYorkClimateWeek, I’ll be joining a panel hosted by the CASH Coalition to discuss just that. We’ll explore how smallholder farmers can access climate finance, focusing on agroforestry and the benefits that can bring for soil health and food security. I’ll share insights from @One Acre Fund’s Zambia pilot and discuss the implementation barriers we face, the need to scale projects to make them economically viable, and the carbon trade-offs we must overcome. Join us to discuss the path forward for climate resilience and financial inclusion. It is set to be a fascinating discussion with Ricardo Bayon from Encourage Capital, Emma van de Ven - Acorn co-founder, and Lakshmi Viswanathan carbon and climate finance lead at CASH. 📅 Date & time: 26 Sept, 8AM EST Venue: https://lnkd.in/eyKXx-GE #NYCW #RegenerativeAgriculture #ClimateFinance #Agroforestry #SmallholderFarmers
