The United Nations World Food Programme in collaboration with University of Oxford and regional meteorology agencies in East Africa 🌍, is leading a pioneering initiative in weather forecasting. Traditional models often struggle with accuracy in predicting extreme weather events like floods 🌩️, particularly in vulnerable communities. To address this, Oxford University's AI-powered system 🧠💡, developed in partnership with climate scientists, offers high-resolution predictions tailored to local conditions. This innovative approach not only improves forecast precision but also empowers communities in East Africa to respond effectively to imminent threats. By leveraging AI without relying on costly supercomputers, the initiative aims to enhance resilience against climate extremes, ensuring a safer future for all 🌟🌱. An insightful report ‘Quantifying the Impact of Climate Change on Human Health’ 🌍 published by the World Economic Forum, provides an in-depth economic analysis of how climate change will reshape health landscapes over the next two decades 🌱. According to the report, developing countries, which have contributed the least to climate change, are not only the most vulnerable to extreme events 🌪️ but also have limited resources to adapt and protect their people. The report highlights increased risks from pollution 🏭, and extreme weather events 🌧️, showing how these factors will worsen existing health inequities, disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable populations. It concludes by labelling climate change a health emergency 🚨, emphasising that mitigating its effects will require substantial financial resources 💸 and a high degree of global cooperation 🤝 to develop solutions that strengthen the global health infrastructure.
