The session featured a distinguished panel of astronauts, including: ⚬ Koichi Wakata Wakakta, CTO of Axiom Space and former JAXA Astronaut with the most spaceflight records in Japan ⚬ Michael Lopez-Alegria, a NASA astronaut with 6 spaceflights and 296 days in space ⚬ Walter Villadei, Head of the Italian Air Force's U.S. office and Ax-3 commercial astronaut ⚬ Eytan Stibbe, the second Israeli astronaut, and Ax-1 mission specialist ⚬ Alper Gezeravcı, the first Turkish astronaut and Ax-3 mission specialist Our Astronaut Talk Session at the IAC provided a unique opportunity to hear firsthand from renowned astronauts about their experiences before, during, and after spaceflight. The 2025 Humans In Space X ASCEND Technical Paper Call is now open, inviting submissions focused on Space Healthcare (Humans In Space). This year’s topic spotlights two crucial domains: protecting astronaut health and performance during space missions and using space's unique environment to drive breakthroughs in medical research and healthcare innovation on Earth. Domain 1: Critical Problems In Space addresses the health challenges and risks astronauts face during extended space missions. This includes issues related to health, safety, and performance. Specific topics of interest include Life Modeling in Space and Medical Operations for Space Exploration. Domain 2: Critical Problems on Earth emphasizes utilizing the space environment to improve healthcare on our planet. Topics of interest include Life Science Research conducted in space to gain insights into biological and material sciences on Earth and Biomanufacturing in Space to produce therapeutics and biomaterials. The 2024 Humans In Space - Finalist Pitch Competition (Co-hosted with IAC) will take place TODAY, October 16th, at the Auditorium, Level 3, South Wing of the MiCo Convention Centre, from 15:30 to 17:30. During the session, 7 teams focused on orbital launching and 4 teams focused on equity investment will present their final pitches, showcasing their innovative ideas for on-orbit research and advancing space commercialization. The selected winners will receive up to $250K of direct costs to send their ideas to orbit or $50K of equity investment. A distinguished panel of evaluators and advisors from renowned institutions in the Space and Healthcare industries will be assessing their pitches.
