Today Marius Klimavičius & Tomas MALINAUSKAS attends Vilnius Space Days 2024 and discusses how to grow the Lithuanian space ecosystem.

Last week we deployed two of our colleagues at VILNIUS TECH AGAI to perform a practical workshop about orbital maneuvers 🚀. Simonas Stasevičius and Kristijonas Grigorovicius presented a task for students to perform Hohmann transfer and phasing orbit calculations which later were executed and visualized using Blackswan Space Mission Design Simulator (MDS) software 🛰️. In the video you see the following orbital maneuver phases: 1️⃣ The apogee of the initial orbit is raised to match the orbital height of the GeoSat. 2️⃣ Once the satellite reaches the apogee of the transfer orbit, we perform another thrust manoeuver to circularize the orbit. 3️⃣ When orbits are matched, we still have to bring the two satellites closer together, thus we perform a third maneuver to enter a phasing orbit. 4️⃣ Finally, after one orbital period when both satellites are close by, we perform the final burn maneuver to match the orbits exactly. #space #orbits #teachingspace #spacetech

Early this week Blackswan Space participated in the very first one NATO Space Symposium hosted in Toulouse the French city of space, rugby & cassoulet. As per NATO press release: “The symposium brought together key decision-makers, space experts and industry leaders from across NATO commands, NATO nations, industry and academia. The theme, “Deterrence, Defence and Resilience in and through the Space Domain,” underscores the growing importance of space for modern military operations” Here are the key takeaways from two panels we have attended: - NATO is not planning to procure any space assets in short term, rather it looks for partnerships with commercial space companies and to leverage existing NATO nations capabilities - NATO staff needs lots of education and training to elevate the overall “Space IQ” - NATO needs much more space exercises & war gaming - NATO needs to learn fast how to plan and execute “Space military operations” - Very soon NATO will need to think about space offensive capabilities because adversaries are not sleeping #nato #space #spacetech

Last week we had the pleasure to host several honorable guests in our office, Dr. Charles Elachi and Dr. Jonas Zmuidzinas. Dr. Charles Elachi is a former director of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and currently professor (emeritus) of electrical engineering and planetary science at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). During his tenure JPL landed the Curiosity rover on Mars and got congratulatory phone call from President Barack Obama after the successful conclusion of Curiosity’s “seven minutes of terror” landing sequence. Dr. Jonas Zmuidzinas currently serves as the Merle Kingsley Professor of Physics at Caltech. Concurrently, he has held positions at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and has collaborated closely with JPL scientists and technologists. His research focuses on astrophysics at sub-millimeter and far-infrared wavelengths, including the development of superconducting detectors and multiplexing techniques as well as instruments for ground-based, airborne and space telescopes. He is an author or co-author of over 250 scientific articles.   Thank you for the inspirational visit!
