✨ Counting wings across Malta ✨ Every winter, White Wagtails grace Malta’s skies, creating captivating sights as they return to their roosts at dusk. This year, over 25 dedicated volunteers joined BirdLife Malta to count these stunning migratory birds at three key locations: Valletta, Qawra, and Mosta. 🌳 Mosta’s comeback story: Following the 2023 pruning of its Ficus trees, wagtails are finally returning – with an eightfold increase in numbers! 📈 Valletta’s iconic roost: 14,780 wagtails were counted in 2025, showcasing the site’s enduring importance. 📸 Witness the magic: Head to City Gate, Valletta, at sunset to experience this breathtaking spectacle firsthand! #WhiteWagtails #RoostCounts #BirdLifeMalta https://lnkd.in/d9RfT48J

January chills – not just for us, but for the birds too! As winter sets in, thousands of birds adapt by seeking refuge in Malta’s towns and villages. From the charming Robin defending its tiny territory to the vibrant Black Redstart and the charismatic Wagtail gathering in impressive roosts, our urban spaces come alive with these winter visitors. Did you know? Volunteers have been counting White Wagtails roosting in Valletta since 1985, and last year over 16,000 were recorded! Nicholas Galea writes about all this and more in an article published last Sunday in the Maltese newspaper il-Mument. Check it out to learn how we can cherish and protect these feathered guests. Small acts like offering food scraps, reducing noise, or adjusting pruning schedules can make a big difference.

🇬🇧📢 Help us save Fort Chambray The historic British-era barracks at Fort Chambray, a landmark visible from Mġarr Harbour, are under threat. The Planning Authority has approved their dismantling, ignoring heritage protection rules. Nine NGOs, including BirdLife Malta, are launching a legal battle to appeal this outrageous decision, but we need your support to fund this fight. 💶 Donate now through Zaar to help us reach our €5,000 target and protect Malta’s cultural heritage. 📽️ Watch the video (courtesy of the Coalition for Gozo) to see why this fight matters. 🔗 Donate here: https://lnkd.in/dP8yQcGU 🇲🇹📢 Għinuna nsalvaw il-Forti Chambray Il-barracks storiċi ta' żmien l-Ingliżi fil-Forti Chambray, monument li jidher mill-Port tal-Imġarr, jinsabu fil-periklu.
