The GIZ global program **Promotion of Agricultural Finance for Agri-based Enterprises in Rural Areas** (GP AgFin) is dedicated to enhancing access to finance for smallholder farmers and agri-based enterprises. Through capacity-building initiatives and innovative financial products developed with partner financial institutions, the program supports sustainable agricultural development and economic growth in rural areas. Our partnership with MicroLoan Foundation, initiated in 2021, has facilitated significant advancements in agricultural finance and financial literacy training for women smallholder farmers. The Farmer’s Financial Cycle training, delivered jointly by MicroLoan Foundation and GIZ GP AgFin, equips farmers with essential knowledge in farm financial management, personal financial management, savings, and digital finance. The Bwenzi and Phindu Loan products were developed after thorough business model analyses of the rice, soybean, and groundnut value chains. We are thrilled to partner with MicroLoan Foundation to launch these innovative products that significantly impact the lives of female farmers in these value chains. By providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge, we are helping them become more productive and financially independent. Through this collaboration, we are not only promoting agricultural finance but also fostering sustainable agricultural development. The Bwenzi and Phindu Loan will enable female farmers to overcome challenges and seize market opportunities, ultimately contributing to poverty reduction and economic growth in rural areas of Malawi. #Agriculture #SustainableDevelopment #FemaleEmpowerment #FinancialInclusion #Malawi #GIZ #MicroLoanFoundation #GPAgFin

🚀 GIZ Boosts Nutrition Efforts in Salima with New Offices! GIZ Food and Nutrition Security Programme (FNSP), is thrilled to share a significant milestone in its mission to enhance nutrition in Malawi! The programme, with support from the German Development Cooperation, has officially handed over newly constructed Nutrition Unit Offices to the Salima District Council. This development highlights GIZ’s ongoing commitment to promoting and supporting nutrition initiatives in Salima District. The new offices provide a dedicated space for partners in the food and nutrition sector to effectively coordinate and implement various interventions, aiming to improve the health and well-being of communities in the district. The official signing, presided by Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daudi took place earlier this month, at Salima District Council, with the District Commissioner James Mwenda, and GIZ FNSP Team Leader Dr. Martina Kress, in attendance. GIZ FNSP also provided three motorcycles to ease mobility challenges that the nutrition officers are facing in the district. “I do not want to hear that these motorcycles are being used as kabazas. And having nutrition officials from different sectors in one building will enhance nutrition outcomes for this district and its communities.  We want other stakeholders to extend such developments to other districts,” said Halima Daudi, appreciating GIZ’s support to improve nutrition.  Let's continue to work together for a healthier future! 🌱💪 #FNSP #GIZMalawi #NutritionGovernance #CommunityHealth

👩🌾 👨🌾 Agriculture plays a crucial role in the economic development of most African countries. However, small rural businesses often face challenges in market orientation and integration into the financial economy. Many lack access to adequate financial services, such as loans tailored for specific value chains, which restricts their ability to invest in agricultural production, processing, and marketing. 💡 To address this, the global programme "Promotion of Agricultural Finance for Agri-based Enterprises in Rural Areas in Malawi" (GP AgFin Malawi) collaborates with both the supply and demand sides — local financial institutions and agricultural enterprises. Stakeholders on both sides benefit from needs-oriented training programs. One such training module, the Agricultural Business Analysis and Investment Training (AgBAIT), is designed for agricultural entrepreneurs. AgBAIT imparts essential economic competencies in business analysis and provides tools to plan and implement profitable and productivity-enhancing business and investment decisions. 🌟 Frank Mwale, CEO of Chriss Trading in Lilongwe, Malawi, participated in the AgBAIT training in 2022. His agribusiness company supplies agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, chemicals, and seeds. The training equipped him with business analysis, investment planning, and financial skills. Notably, the communication and networking skills he gained helped him connect with a financial institution to access finance. Since then, his business has grown from 3 to 12 permanent employees. Frank believes that without the AgBAIT training, he would not have been able to secure financing from a corporate bank. 🌟 Florence Mwangonde, Managing Director of Viphya Chambo, a fish farm in Mzuzu, Northern Malawi, also benefited from the AgBAIT training. Viphya Chambo produces tilapia fish and fish fingerlings. The training provided Florence with valuable financial and communication skills, especially in dealing with financiers. This knowledge enabled her to secure financial services, closing the knowledge gap, she was facing as a woman, and empowering her to identify business opportunities and effectively record all transactions. The GP AgFin is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
