The National African Student Association (NAfSA), in collaboration with Ashoka and The Diaspora Academy (TDA) have launched the Policy Advocacy Capacity Building Program! This exciting program aims to engage members who are interested in raising awareness on key policy issues and influence policy outcomes for systems change across Africa and its diaspora communities while abroad. Our inaugural cohort have already completed three modules thus far and have learned so much about policy advocacy work as diaspora youth. Thanks to program funding from the Gates Foundation, these changemakers will have the necessary tools and network to succeed. Stay tuned to hear from some of the participants over the course of the next few weeks about their experiences! Recently, we had the honor of engaging with incredible young leaders at the Mtoto Changemaker Barazza with Mtoto News, held under the inspiring theme “Every Child Is A Changemaker: Trust Children to Lead.” This partnership underscores our shared belief in the power of children to drive change. By equipping young people with tools, networks, and confidence, we’re fostering a culture of changemaking that values their contributions and empowers them to lead in their communities. 💡 Watch Cicilia Madegwa share her story below #EveryoneAChangemaker #YoungChangemakers #AshokaAfrica #MtotoNews
🌍✨ Meet Cicilia Madegwa, a 15-year-old environmental activist and Changemaker! Watch her share her journey at the #MtotoChangemakersBaraza, where she talks about her innovative Carbon Purification Project. Cicilia is tackling industrial emissions to protect the environment and improve the lives of children near factories. She also highlights the challenges African children face, particularly the lack of quality education due to poverty, and reminds us that every child has the right to be heard and seen. To her fellow Changemakers, Cicilia encourages: 'You are the hummingbirds that Wangari Maathai spoke about. Together, we are the future.'
