PHEM in West Africa! (Prehospital Emergency Medicine) .. For a year, in 2017, I worked as medical assistance doctor remotely from London and dealt with patients from all over the world but it was in dealing with cases in Nigeria that peaked my interest the most because the sheer need and potential for an effective and efficient PHEM system was palpable. A PHEM system to serve both business travelers and inhabitants of the most populous and rich country in Africa. After some years and a few Royal college exams later I returned to Nigeria, this time in person and had the opportunity to spend some Clinical and Academic time with Eight Medical | Techstars ‘23. Home grown PHEM organisation that is doing Nigeria proud; 24hrs dispatch EMS coverage in Lagos, Fully equipped and adapted ambulances, highly trained paramedics and EMTs and a willingness to strive for the clinical excellence and the highest quality clinical care despite the challenges Nigeria faces. . I'm truly inspired by what i've seen and i'm looking forward to what they achieve in this space. Special thanks to Ibukun Tunde-Oni https://www.8medical.co/

The World Health Organization has determined that the upsurge of mpox in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and a growing number of countries in Africa constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. Typically for mpox, fever, muscle aches and sore throat appear first. The mpox rash begins on the face and spreads over the body, extending to the palms of the hands and soles of the feet and evolves over 2-4 weeks in stages – macules, papules, vesicles, pustules. Things to do to help the symptoms and prevent infecting others: * Stay home and in your own room if possible * wash hands often with soap and water or hand sanitizer, especially before or after touching sores * wear a mask and cover lesions when around other people until your rash heals * keep skin dry and uncovered (unless in a room with someone else) * avoid touching items in shared spaces and disinfect shared spaces frequently * use saltwater rinses for sores in the mouth * take sitz baths or warm baths with baking soda or Epsom salts for body sores * take over-the-counter medications for pain like paracetamol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen. Call us on 0707 153 4107 if you suspect you or anyone around you is showing signs of Mpox.

World Organ Donation Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the pressing global issue of organ scarcity. This shortage directly impacts the capacity of emergency medical services (EMS) providers in Nigeria to deliver optimal care to patients experiencing organ failure. We offer quick and reliable transport services for organs, blood and critical resources that are time-bound within the country. #WorldOrganDonationDay
