Project Aisha Makes Huge Strides at ISQua Conference Istanbul. Project Aisha made a remarkable impact at the recent ISQua conference in Istanbul, Turkey, by presenting two abstracts that highlight its critical work in improving maternal healthcare through tailored solutions and patient feedback. The first abstract, presented by Dr. Olasunmbo Makinde, one of HSDF’s program managers, was titled “Using Context-Specific Solutions to Strengthen Access to Emergency Obstetric Care in a Low-Resource Setting.” This work emphasizes the importance of context-driven strategies in enhancing access to emergency obstetric care, particularly in rural and urban areas where resources are limited. By identifying challenges and leveraging local knowledge, the project effectively develops interventions using the Model for Improvement as a quality improvement framework. The second abstract, “Enhancing Maternal Health Care through Patient Feedback: The Role of Women’s Education in Quality Improvement,” underscores the power of patient feedback, particularly through the lens of women's education. By utilizing a digital platform to collect women’s experiences, the project empowers women and ensures that healthcare remains truly patient-centered. This direct feedback is essential in driving better outcomes and experiences for mothers and their families. Overall, Project Aisha's presence at the conference underscores its commitment to advancing maternal care and improving healthcare quality. Supported by MSD-for-Mothers and a consortium of partners including Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation, IHI, mymdoc, and Ingress Health Partners, Project Aisha continues to lead efforts in enhancing maternal healthcare experiences globally. #MaternalHealth #Motherhood #SafeMotherhood #QualityImprovement

Project Aisha Hosts Quality Improvement (QI) Training for Healthcare Workers in Lagos State. Building on the success of the Maternal Health Quality Improvement (MHQI) Phase 1 Collaborative, Project Aisha is now expanding into Phase 2. This phase involves 17 healthcare facilities, including 11 Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) and 6 Maternity Hospitals, across Alimosho and Agege LGAs. To kick off this next stage, 52 healthcare workers participated in a training session on September 25-26, 2024, at Amber Residence in Lagos. The training focused on improvement science using the “Model for Improvement” (MFI). Key topics included: 1. Identifying gaps in care delivery; 2. Setting a SMART aim statement; 3. Using analytical tools (5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, Process Maps) to find root causes; 4. Developing solutions (change ideas); 5. Monitoring performance with various measures; and 6. Testing and implementing solutions through the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle. Project Aisha is supported by MSD-for-Mothers and implemented by a consortium of partners including Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation, mymdoc, Ingress Health Partners, and the IHI. We remain committed to our funders' vision of achieving zero preventable maternal deaths and improving the quality of maternity care. #MaternalHealth #Motherhood #SafeMotherhood #QualityImprovement

It’s a Wrap! Project Aisha Concludes Phase I of Maternal Health Quality Improvement Collaborative (MHQI) in Lagos State. After 15 months of invaluable learning and collaboration across 13 maternal health quality improvement (QI) initiatives, Project Aisha concluded Phase 1 of its MHQI Collaborative at Dover Hotel, Ikeja, from September 17 to 19, 2024. During the sessions, participants reviewed the emerging results from implementing various change ideas and strengthened plans to ensure the sustainability of these initiatives. A key focus was amplifying women’s voices using NaviHealth.ai, which highlighted their experiences with maternal care at partner facilities across Lagos state. Participants also reflected on community-level efforts to empower women to make informed decisions that impact on their health. Moving forward, Project Aisha remains committed to its mission of ensuring no woman dies while giving birth. By working with state health leaders to scale up these QI initiatives, we are taking crucial steps toward sustaining the gains of the project. Project Aisha is supported by MSD-for-Mothers and implemented by a consortium of partners— IHI, Ingress Health Partners, and mymdoc —with the goal of reducing maternal deaths and obstetric complications in Lagos and Kaduna States by 20% by 2025.
