Our Annual Report 2023 is here! 2023 has been a landmark year for us, with results that have far exceeded our expectations. Our dual approach demonstrates to asset managers, financial institutions, and foundations the powerful potential of investing in #water and #sanitation. By showing that these sectors can deliver both social impact and sustainable profitability, we have significantly increased leverage, attracting greater investments. A highlight of 2023 was the Mid-Term Review, which affirmed the success of our unique combination of #market-based solutions and #financial sector engagement. We believe that the collaboration between public and philanthropic funds, alongside private capital, will be essential to achieving #SDG6. Our impact is a testament to the valuable partnerships we have built, and we extend our deepest gratitude to our partners for their trust, collaboration, and unwavering support. A special thanks goes to the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, particularly the Inclusive Green Growth Department for their continued dedication. As we look ahead, we invite like-minded organisations and individuals to join us in advancing our mission. Together, we can continue to drive transformative change in the water and sanitation sector. Why is Oikocredit such a good match for Aqua for All? 🤔 The ultimate goal of our partnership with Oikocredit is to increase access to affordable and sustainable #water and #sanitation services for underserved households and communities in Africa and Asia. We offer a unique joint solution to #financial #institutions, combining capital, de-risking mechanisms, and technical assistance which enables them to expand their water and sanitation portfolios, thereby driving sustainable growth and supporting local communities. Our partnership should also pave the way for similar models in the sector; Oikocredit’s willingness to venture into the sector, a relatively new investment area, shows its commitment to making a difference, which aligns perfectly with our mission and goals. As our partnership enters its third year, Owais Shafiq, our Senior Impact Finance Officer, reflects on the milestones we've achieved and the outlook for the coming years: 👉 https://lnkd.in/dqHNnDTk #partnership #communitybased #impactinvesting #change #bridginggaps Incofin Investment Management | Impact Europe | e-MFP | Danone Communities | Inclusive Green Growth Department | Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken | Netherlands Enterprise Agency | Total Impact Capital | The Global Impact Investing Network | Impact Investor | Mirjam t Lam | Viviana Cordero | Jasmin Panjeta | Marlies Batterink | Ramah Madiba

Take-aways and what’s next: One month after World Water Week 2024 #WorldWaterWeek 2024 was an exceptional platform for our team — Adriaan Ruijmschoot, Annemarie Mastenbroek, Marcela Perez Pereira, Priscilla Smit, and Simon Cohen — to connect with global experts, exchange ideas, and stay updated on the latest trends and challenges in the Water and Sanitation sector. For those new to the sector, it provided a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the key players and align with entrepreneurs and like-minded organisations, emphasising the critical need for system strengthening. They gained insights into emerging trends and best practices, notably learning that incentive mechanisms play a pivotal role across various sub-sectors in both #water and #sanitation. Important take-aways emerged from the WASH Funders Group (WFG) session focusing on: 1) Innovative financial mechanisms; 2) System strengthening; 3) Market-based solutions; 4) Integrated programmes (WASH & ecosystems/Water Resources Management). To motivate governments and Development Finance Institutions to co-invest in water and sanitation, advocacy should present clear, evidence-based solutions with a unified voice. There's growing momentum for WFG to explore pooled funding mechanisms for projects with shared KPIs, streamlining efforts and boosting collective impact. WASH Funder collaborations can be beneficial when funders’ interests/strategies complement one another, addressing (funding) gaps. Key takeaways: - Stakeholders widely agree on the importance of system strengthening, focusing on professionalising service delivery, improving legislation and regulation, and engaging local financial institutions and investors. - There's a growing demand for post-acceleration Technical Assistance (TA) and a need for tailored funding, from seed capital to catalytic grants and favorable repayable investments. With the 2025 theme "Water for Climate Action," #WorldWaterWeek promises even greater impact. We look forward to reconnecting with partners and collaborating with new allies to drive sustainable change. Let's keep building stronger systems together! 🌱 The Impact Finance Barometer published by Convergences presents key figures and global trends in financial inclusion and impact investing. Since 2023, the impact investing market has reached a trillion dollars, but this represents still only about 1% of total assets under management worldwide. Check out their 2 new publications (in French) below 👇 While environmental impact finance has gradually made its way into the financial landscape, the growing gap in inequality around the world reminds us of the urgent need to redouble our efforts to ensure that social impact finance is also at the heart of public policy concerns and traditional financial markets. As lead of the e-MFP #WASH Action Group, we are excited to share the reflections published in the Impact Finance Barometer to raise awareness among investors working in developing countries and with vulnerable populations to enable them to better understand the sector. The Action Group was created to fill an information gap as many investors/funders find it difficult to grow their WASH portfolio, and find out what the opportunities for financial, social, and environmental return are. Find the key points from our publications 'Handbook on WASH for Impact Investors on page 6: https://lnkd.in/eqCnndsS 💧 For more information on how we address knowledge gaps in the #water and #sanitation sector and map and define water & sanitation indicators in the financial inclusion sector, check out e-MFP's website: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eCWe9qBD Impact Europe | The Global Impact Investing Network | Impact Investor | Owais Shafiq | Incofin Investment Management | Danone Communities #impactinvesting #finance #environment #SDG6

Our Programme Manager West Africa, Sarah Kalin transitioned from Programme Manager for #Bangladesh and #Kenya to becoming Programme Manager for West Africa and we asked her to share her experiences over the past four years. 🌍 In this interview she elaborates on the changes in the water sector since she joined Aqua for All; many organisations are shifting towards market-based approaches, private sector engagement and #finance. There is more support for private sector actors and the SME ecosystem as everyone comes to the same conclusion and funders and stakeholders become more interested in supporting these initiatives. And like Aqua for All, many organisations are striving for more efficiency and long-term approaches. On the final day of World Water Week, we're thrilled to present our Carbon Credits Knowledge Brief! A recent report estimates that water-related projects worldwide could generate over 1.6 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent in carbon credits annually. In the #WASH sector, carbon credits are gaining traction as a valuable revenue source for SMEs focused on water and sanitation, contributing to climate change mitigation. While #carbon #finance can significantly enhance the sustainability of these enterprises, the certification process is complex and often cost-prohibitive, limiting the viability of carbon credits primarily to larger organisations. To support social enterprises in fully leveraging carbon credits, raising awareness of both the opportunities and challenges is crucial. This Carbon Credits Knowledge Brief, based on our experiences in the carbon space, delves into strategies for mobilising carbon finance to support water and sanitation enterprises in the Global South 👇 Read more about our Climate Strategy: https://bit.ly/3Xldbzv Aqua Clara Kenya | Aqua Clara Solutions | Cewas | Container Based Sanitation Alliance | Climate Impact Partners | ForthInvestment | Gold Standard | iDE (International Development Enterprises) | Intellecap | IRCWASH | Millennium Water Alliance (MWA) | Nazava Water Filters 💦 B Corp | Toilet Board Coalition | WaterAid | Young Water Solutions | Yunus Social Business | Green Climate Fund | Conrad N.
