We’ve been reflecting on the incredible reception we had earlier this week following #TPM25 in Long Beach, where we had the opportunity to celebrate the milestone launch of DCSA+ and look ahead to a bright future for our industry. It was an honor to have the Port of Los Angeles as our co-host, and we extend our gratitude to our event sponsors BlueCargo, The Maritime Professor® , and Wabtec Corporation for their invaluable support. We were also delighted to host stakeholders from across the shipping and supply chain community, including our first DCSA+ partners, Lufthansa Industry Solutions and Vinturas. The event provided a fantastic platform to connect with industry leaders, exchange insights, and explore ways to collaborate in driving innovation and accelerating digital standards across the sector. A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success! We are excited to continue strengthening our network and working together to shape the future of digital shipping—building a more seamless, resilient, and efficient supply chain. Paper Bills of Lading (B/Ls) are inefficient, expensive and leave organisations open to fraud. Alack of standard data formats and processes contributes to shipping discrepancies, operational delays, financial losses, and increased costs. Our DCSA Bill of Lading standard enables frictionless sharing of digitised shipping data and improved efficiency of shipment documentation and operations. This standard stems from our Digital Trade Initiative which was set up with the ultimate aim for paperless international trade, starting with a secure, standardised electronic Bill of Lading (eBL). We also continue to work closely with eBL solution providers on technical and legal interoperability to enable seamless digital transfer of original B/Ls across different platforms and stakeholders, which will facilitate the global uptake of B/L standards. In a recent article by The Loadstar, Thomas Bagge, CEO of DCSA, underscored the urgent need for widespread adoption of digital standards in the container shipping industry. While our members MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, Hapag-Lloyd AG and A.P. Moller - Maersk have made significant strides in adopting IoT-enabled containers, many parts of the industry are still catching up. Thomas highlighted that these advancements have set a clear industry standard, particularly when it comes to the essential ability to track containers. As he pointed out, tracking your container is a necessity for those procuring container shipping services. This shift toward IoT-enabled containers signals a move towards greater transparency and efficiency in the shipping process. It’s evident that other players in the industry will need to follow this lead. As digitalisation continues to reshape the shipping landscape, we look forward to further collaboration with our members and partners to drive this vital change across the industry. Booking processes in the shipping industry are often performed manually in the absence of standardised procedures. This leads to delays and shipping errors due to inaccurate data, ultimately causing financial losses. Without access to accurate, timely booking data, stakeholders may be misinformed about available equipment, vessel space, and other relevant information, which can hinder effective decision-making. Our DCSA Booking standard enables frictionless sharing of digitised booking data to ensure faster booking transactions while minimising the risk of errors and data discrepancies thanks to a common standard. DCSA standards will improve operational and administrative efficiency for stakeholders across the value chain, help optimise resource utilisation, and facilitate regulatory compliance.
