Last week, our colleagues Mark Erkens and Robert Bobeldijk organized a technical session at Movares about the use of D-glide® in civil engineering applications. The session focused on the properties and performance of D-glide® in demanding environments, design considerations for civil structures and practical case studies of how self-lubricating bearings can improve reliability and reduce maintenance dependency in infrastructure projects. Last Thursday, DRIE-D organized a 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 at the ss Rotterdam with over 50 attendees involved in civil engineering. The audience which was a balanced mix of experienced and younger engineers, represented government, construction, and engineering firms. During the presentations by Technical Director Erik Dorst, Engineering Manager Mark Erkens, and Mechanical Engineer Thobias Van Kuik, the following topics were discussed: 1. Introduction of D-glide® 2. Tribology of composite bearings 3. Possibilities of DRIE-D’s in-house friction test facility 4. Design considerations with D-glide® 5. Project examples highlighting inventive bearing designs The presentations led to a lively Q&A session, where participants asked in-depth questions about our test facility and project specific designs. At the end of the presentation a lot of enthusiastic technical discussions about project opportunities went on during the reception. The audience appreciated the technical depth of the session – a valuable opportunity for DRIE-D to share knowledge to a technically-minded audience. We want to thank our guest speaker, Rob Drabbe from HYDAC B.V., who discussed predictive maintenance possibilities for hydraulic systems within the civil engineering sector.
