We would like to congratulate the sponsors and partners of the Oya project, G7 Renewable Energies (Pty) Ltd, ENGIE, Meadows Energy and Perpetua Investment Managers (Pty) Ltd, on the project being shortlisted for Project Finance Deal of the Year in the Tamarindo Energy Storage Awards 2024.   The Oya project is a 128 MW co-located hybrid project straddling the Western and Northern Cape provinces in South Africa that consists of a mix of onshore wind turbines (86 MW), bi-facial solar PV arrays (155 MWp), lithium-ion battery storage (94MW/242MWh) and a unique hybrid controller supplying dispatchable baseload power during daytime hours, thus making it one of the biggest hybrid projects of its kind in the world. Last week, our colleague Stephen Mettler joined a panel discussion at the Munich Hydrogen Summit, hosted by Watson Farley & Williams and by Bayerische Landesbank.   Stephen shared Green Giraffe Advisory’s current view of the green hydrogen market, as it supports projects aiming to set the first repeatable, “truly commercial” project finance precedents in green hydrogen. He exchanged views with other panellists on where Europe is best-positioned, and where adjustments would be helpful, drawing from his experience in the green hydrogen market in the U.S. before joining Green Giraffe’s team in Hamburg.   Cosima Schneider from Bayerische Landesbank moderated. Jessica Otto at BFE Institut für Energie und Umwelt GmbH, Michael Schäffer at Linde Engineering, Christian Baumgart at Bayerische Landesbank, and Christian Tollmien at Siemens Energy brought great insights from across the market. The panellists aligned on many points, and constructively disagreed on a few, especially on the long-term role of green relative to blue hydrogen in serving Europe’s decarbonization and energy security needs.   Thank you to all the guests, especially to those who asked questions to the panel, and to WFW and BayernLB for hosting a strong event. Last week, Green Giraffe Advisory, Everoze and Greenberg Traurig, LLP hosted an event focussing on green hydrogen in London.   During the panel discussion our colleague Stephen Mettler, discussed what is going well in the global green hydrogen ecosystem, where the market is struggling, and what it will take to push through to deploy and scale the right projects in the UK. He presented lessons learned by Green Giraffe Advisory’s team supporting green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol projects raise capital, especially on how to unlock commercial bankability in specific markets.   The panel was moderated by Joanna Holt and our fellow panellists Ewan Murray and Shashank Krishna brought Everoze’s and Greenberg Traurig’s deep expertise supporting the hydrogen projects.   A big thank you to all our guests for joining us and sharing great questions.
