𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Large-scale electrification of industry is essential to achieve the required CO₂ reductions and decrease the dependency on gas. At ISPT's Heat Integration Platform, we've identified various energy-saving electrification technologies for heat-driven processes, often using heat pumps. However, full electrification remains challenging due to the variability in electricity availability and pricing. To address this issue, we are exploring options for efficient, flexible, fully electrified industrial processes that consider electricity variability, pricing, and future grid capacity. We are also examining the technical challenges and identifying the most attractive technologies for companies to implement. To facilitate these discussions, the Heat Integration Platform has developed two realistic virtual cases: one for an agro-food process 🥕 and another for chemical production 🧪. These cases involve the most relevant heat-related unit operations, including all necessary technical details on unit operations and process streams. 💡 We greatly value the input and insights of all experts to solve our virtual industrial heat cases. 💡 𝗜𝗦𝗣𝗧 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗜𝗦𝗣𝗧 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 Het ISPT - Institute for Sustainable Process Technology viert zijn 20-jarig bestaan met een nieuwe stap: de oprichting van ISPT Brains, een adviesbureau dat zich richt op technologische innovatie en verduurzaming. Met dit adviesbureau willen we de expertise en ervaring die in 20 jaar is opgebouwd in brede samenwerkingsprogramma's nu ook beschikbaar maken voor individuele partijen in het bedrijfsleven, de overheid en de non-profitsector. Dit nieuwe initiatief speelt in op de groeiende vraag naar advies binnen de 3 grote transities waar de procesindustrie mee te maken heeft: de #energietransitie, de circulaire #materialentransitie en de voedsel- en #landbouwtransitie. Tjeerd Jongsma, directeur ISPT, vertelt: "We krijgen regelmatig verzoeken van bedrijven, overheden en non-profitorganisaties om advies of hulp bij het ontwikkelen van modellen en berekeningen. Met ISPT Brains kunnen we nu beter inspelen op deze individuele vragen en onze impact verder vergroten." The 19th Netherlands Process technology Symposium (NPS19) will be held on October 8 and 9, 2024 at the Forum Groningen. This year's theme is "Bridging Sustainable Process and Product Technology". The development of sustainable processes and the design and manufacture of environmentally benign (bio-based) chemical products are key to addressing societal challenges. During NPS19, Prof. Sascha Kersten will give a presentation about ISPT's Long Term Program (LTP). This ambitious initiative aims to develop process technology for 2050. By then, the value chains from raw materials to end products in industry are expected to have changed radically. Unique to the Netherlands, the LTP focuses on pioneering technologies that do not yet exist today, setting the stage for a fully #sustainable process industry. 💡 The first project within the LTP has started: TREPS (Trace Removal Using Electrically Powered Separations), and a new project SUNSOLr: Electrification of Chemical Conversions, is about to start. 👉 Curious? At Timmerije B.V., one of the largest plastic injection moulding companies in the Netherlands, Cindy Bauhuis (Product Design Manager) advocates for a sustainable future through recycling. Specializing in developing and manufacturing customer-specific technical plastic products, the company is committed to one clear vision: making all plastics circular whenever possible. Timmerije is working with ISPT on the ReCYCLE project, part of the CPI - Circular Plastics Initiative. In this project we focus on creating durable circular plastic parts for the use of electric bikes, pushing the boundaries of innovation in sustainable engineering thermoplastics.
