We're excited to share that Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) has launched an English-language LinkedIn account: Statistics Netherlands, expanding its reach to non-Dutch speakers within the Netherlands and to an international audience. This initiative will help keep society informed of key statistics and developments, engaging a broader community across various sectors. As an independent non-governmental organization committed to promoting the sharing of knowledge and data, the International Statistical Institute views this move as a way to strengthening communications and knowledge sharing worldwide. The launch of CBS’s English account will make crucial statistics more accessible globally, fostering international collaboration and dialogue with others. 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀' 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 Statistics Netherlands (CBS) has today published the latest figures on the state of public finances in the Netherlands in 2024. Here are the main take-aways: 💶 In 2024 the public sector spent €12 billion more than it received in revenues. That means the government deficit for 2024 was equivalent to 1.1% of GDP – higher than the deficit of 0.4% of GDP that we recorded in 2023. 💶 Total public debt was €492 billion at the end of 2024, up by €9 billion since the end of 2023. As a percentage of GDP, however, total public debt was lower than it was in 2023 by 1.9%. 💶 The debt-to-GDP ratio was down in 2024 – from 45.2% in 2023 to 43.3% in 2024. It now stands at its lowest level since 2007. The Maastricht criteria for Eurozone members states that the debt-to-GDP ratio of Eurozone countries must be below 60%. 💶 Total public spending reached €500 billion in 2024, which was 8% higher than in 2023. Over the past five years, government spending has increased by €150 billion. It also outpaced GDP growth somewhat over the same period. Public spending as a percentage of GDP has therefore been on an upward trajectory: from 42.1% in 2019 to 44.1% in 2024. https://lnkd.in/eHW7c-DB
