“People are not here to buy AI. They are looking for solutions to problems.” Wise words from our head of product, Martin Prins on a Content Everywhere panel at IBC 2024 this weekend. The problem in question was customer acquisition and retention. The panel looked at the importance of UX in winning and keeping viewers. Martin talked in detail about our Topic Distillery for Sports solution, which won both a CSI award and a BaM award at IBC. In particular, he described how our successful pilot of this solution with Liberty Global showed that subscribers were delighted when they found content about their favourite topics within shows or channels that they wouldn’t normally watch. A great UX, powered by real time AI analysis of the video stream. It was standing room only for the panel and a straw poll of the audience confirmed that “time to content” remains a huge challenge for almost all users of streaming services, demonstrating the need for the enhanced metadata and advanced content discovery experiences powered by Topic Distillery, Preview Distillery and our Time Marker Suite.
