"The foil is key to breaking the record" - explains Benoit Gaudiot, COO and SP80 kite pilot. The updated hydrofoil design – according to calculations - prevents instability from cavitation, enabling a sailboat to exceed the current speed record. "This is a crucial step for us", Xavier Lepercq, CTO of SP80 emphasizes. "In the world of sailing, the fastest boats are all confronted with a physical underwater phenomenon: cavitation. This is comparable to the sound barrier in aviation. To exceed 60 knots, we need foil shapes that are very different from what we can see today in the America's Cup and in the sailing world; the constraints are not the same. New directions for 2025 at Metstrade In 2025, Metstrade will be more dynamic than ever, occupying all 13 halls at RAI Amsterdam for the first time. This expansion, combined with enriched product categories, will offer even greater possibilities for exhibitors and visitors for networking and business growth. Key focus areas will include emerging technologies, sustainability, and accessibility & inclusion. The Superyacht Pavilion will be significantly enhanced, featuring a dedicated area for refit clusters, a knowledge theatre, a special programme for captains, and a fine dining restaurant to elevate the experience. Record-breaking Metstrade builds solid foundation for future expansion The 36th edition of the world’s leading trade show for leisure marine equipment, systems and materials closed yesterday after recording its highest ever attendance of leading marine professionals from across the globe. Metstrade 2024 (19-21 November) hosted close to 1,600 exhibitors, across 12 halls at RAI Amsterdam. The show received 31,824 visits from 19,779 unique visitors spanning 134 nationalities. The overall increase in attendance was up 10 per cent and six per cent respectively when compared to 2023, the previous historic high-water mark. Attendance records were surpassed on each of the three days for this strictly trade-only show. https://lnkd.in/ddMi2uba
