☕ Happy International Coffee Day! ☕ Many of you probably started your day with a good cup of coffee. Today, let’s take a moment to appreciate the millions of smallholder coffee farmers who are at the very beginning of the coffee supply chain. These farmers face significant challenges, from the changing climate to fluctuating global coffee prices. Every year, we finance and support over 80 coffee organizations, ranging from cooperatives to agri-SMEs, impacting the lives of 250,000 smallholder coffee farmers worldwide. By providing access to essential finance, networks, and knowledge, we aim to improve their livelihoods and ensure they can thrive and build a more sustainable future. But are they thriving? To answer this question, we participated in the Coffee Farmer Thriving Index, an initiative by 60 Decibels and Small Foundation, to further evolve our commitment to these farmers. As you enjoy your coffee today, take a moment to read this report and reflect on the journey your coffee has taken. Together, we can support a more sustainable and equitable coffee industry. 🌍 👉 https://lnkd.in/esH69hKx #InternationalCoffeeDay #Sustainability #CoffeeFarmers #SupportSmallholders #CoffeeLovers
Over ons
Investing in people's self-sufficiency is our most important task. We are active in the Netherlands and 22 developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Internationally we want to give smallholder farmers the prospect of a sustainable future. By supporting their savings and credit cooperatives and producer organizations – coffee or dairy cooperatives, for example – to professionalise and work more efficiently. That way they can better help their members and become self-reliant in the longer term. We support them with financial resources, expertise and our network. We share updates in English and Dutch.

🌱☕ We're excited to release a brand new report on the wellbeing of coffee farmers, developed with the Small Foundation and powered by 60 Decibels’ Farmer Thriving Index! The global coffee industry, worth billions of dollars, relies on millions of smallholder farmers. Yet, how much do we really know about their lives and challenges? We surveyed over 3,000 coffee farmers in Uganda and Rwanda to find out first hand! Here's a quick snapshot of what they told us: - Over a third of farmers surveyed reported no profit last year, with 21% facing losses. - Only 19% have reliable access to agricultural extension services. - Despite challenges, nearly all plan to continue growing coffee, with 81% hoping their children will too. - Farmers selling coffee as parchment are better off financially. - Members of cooperatives have better service access and financial stability. 📥 Download the report and explore seven critical takeaways for the coffee sector here: https://lnkd.in/esH69hKx This report is a joint effort among many players including Small Foundation, Counter Culture Coffee, Mountain Harvest Coffee, Incofin Investment Management, Thanksgiving Coffee Company, Global Partnerships, Aceli Africa, Rabo Foundation, SIDI (Solidarité Internationale pour le Développement et l'Investissement).
