    Would you accept a 10-day window for your (domestic) parcel delivery? Probably not. However, 160 years ago, this was a major accomplishment and a huge improvement. Following up on our previous story about the first customer service complaint over 4,000 years ago, today we’re taking you back to school for a small history lesson on parcel delivery. 🤓 Researching the history of delivering parcels, our marketer Nemanja traveled back to the Gold Rush-era USA (he just read a couple of articles on National Geographic and Atlas Obscura) to learn more about the Pony Express. One thing that never seems to change is that consumers want stuff delivered fast. At the time, the Pony Express enabled the fastest mail delivery from one coast to the other, cutting down transit time from 25 to under 10 days. President Abraham Lincoln's inaugural address was delivered in just 7 days and 17 hours 🏇 Are you familiar with the story?     Van nature onderneem ik graag op basis van mijn onderbuikgevoel, bevalt me prima, maar soms ook wel handig als je kan terugvallen op data, toch? Zo monitoren wij tegenwoordig onze pakkettenstroom. We verzenden circa 1,3mln pakketten dit jaar. Krijgen aan het einde van de maand een factuur met een getal waarvan ik van mijn stoel val. Factuur is zo’n beetje 20 pagina’s en staat vol met allerlei toeslagen, wie kan en gaat dat allemaal controleren? Ik in elk geval niet maar gelukkig hebben ik onze COO Guus, maar die had hier onderhand een slaapzak en luchtbed (ja, zo ben ik dan ook wel weer) want het was handmatig niet meer te controleren. Nu werkt Guus alweer even samen met Rick Vloet & Huib Adriaans van Tracey by Sendcloud. Die hebben een tool ontwikkeld waarmee je, je verzenddata over de factuur kan leggen en zo zaken die niet kloppen eruit kan halen. Ook krijgen we een beter inzicht in de prestaties van de pakketdiensten en het gemiddelde volume van de pakketten (dm3) die we versturen. Meer inzicht helpt ook bij de onderhandelingen met de pakketdiensten. Voor ons een superfijne tool die veel tijd en geld bespaard en ook de prestatie van een pakketdienst laat zien waardoor je tijdig aan de bel kan trekken. En voor de vorm nog even op de foto met de mannen, ze hadden er passend shirtje voor aangetrokken, goed bezig!
