We are a leader in the energy sector with a presence across the spectrum; from oil through to power, renewables and carbon credits. Every day we use our expertise to distribute energy around the world. We source from producers, refiners and intermediaries and deliver to refineries, utilities, airlines and retail distribution networks as well as wholesalers and other traders. We manage the physical risk associated with moving energy. Our business is global: we trade over 7 million barrels per day of crude oil and products and charter around 6,000 ship voyages a year. We also use our technical expertise to manage a global network of energy infrastructure that we deploy to help meet supply and demand flows worldwide. Our trading and logistical expertise is supported by a suite of propriety technology applications that we build and maintain in-house. From more than 40 offices worldwide, we seek to add value across the energy supply chain, including deploying our scale and market understanding to help facilitate the energy transition. To date, we have committed over $2 billion of capital to renewable projects and sustainable energy solutions. The focus of our business is changing, and we are always looking for new people to help build the company for the next decade and beyond. We are a flat organisation that has a collaborative and entrepreneurial ethos. Vitol’s people are empowered to own their decisions and take responsibility for their actions. The culture is underpinned by our core values of integrity, honesty and humility. Our colleagues comprise c.1,600 people with 65+ nationalities represented, making us a truly global organisation. VTTI and Connex are joining forces to develop a renewable feedstock or 'Greenstock' Pretreatment Facility (GPF) at VTTI’s terminal in Amsterdam (ETA). When the project is complete, the facility will be able to process over 400,000 tons of renewable feedstock per year to enable the production of sustainable fuels, giving customers additional options for pretreatment services in Northern Europe.      Read more about the project: https://lnkd.in/dJPjn_Ea    #VTTI #GreenstockPretreamentFacility #Connex #RenewableFeedstock #BioFuels

Great keynote panel earlier today at #SIBCON2024 on; ‘Viewing the Energy Transition through the lens of #Shipping’ with Vitol’s Head of Asia Mike Muller on stage alongside senior executives from CMA-CGM, BHP and PCL Lots of interesting insight, with key takeaways: On the increasing uptake of #biofuels; ‘we’re seeing demand for biofuel blended bunkers in Singapore roughly doubling every year at the moment, heading for around 1 million mt this year and maybe 2 million mt next year. Demand for 100% biofuel from shipping customers is also starting to pick up as of this year and we have led the way in commissioning new IMO type2 barges to fulfil this demand - indeed an important Asian customer of ours has taken three deliveries of B100 UCOME biofuel just in recent weeks here in #Singapore.’ And on the role of #LNG in the energy transition; ‘we expect to see growth in LNG use as a bunker fuel for at least another decade, and probably longer. We’re anticipating being granted a LNG bunker licence in Singapore soon. It would be unthinkable not to deploy at least one of the three barges Vitol has on order in Singapore.’ For more on our #marinefuel offering, and #decarbonisation solutions for shipping, visit https://lnkd.in/eKVDB9jA

Davide Rubini, Head of Regulatory Affairs, #Gas Power and Environmental Products EMEA at Vitol, recently spoke at #BiogasPowerOn2024 on, “How national blending quota systems can drive the development of the biomethane market” Key takeaways included: Blending quota laws that are currently in the making provide a real opportunity to build a #market that is harmonised across the European Union which would contribute to: - security of demand for biomethane producers and - the creation of a proper internal market for biomethane able to deliver a relatively cheap #decarbonisation solution to European consumers. However, the regulatory framework in the biomethane space is possibly the key obstacle to the development of the sector It is fragmented with different national interpretations of EU law leading to different national requirements and uncertain implementation deadlines. There are also times when the commercial implications are poorly understood by policymakers.  All this means that currently, there is no harmonised market – crucial for the success of blending quota systems. As Vitol, we are keen to support regulators and policy makers to build a market that works for all participants. https://lnkd.in/e_HDutUk   #Biogas #Biomethane #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability

Mila Strikova, Sustainability Manager, at Vitol recently participated in the Energy Trading Week Europe panel; 'New Sources of energy: Focus on hydrogen and #decarbonised gases' The conversation was animated with optimism on the role that #sustainable fuels can play in the #energytransition. Key takeaways from Mila include: - #Biomethane will play an important role in decarbonising not only big industrial facilities but also #road and #marine transport in the next 10 years. - Hydrogen has a role to play but it’s at the start of its journey, whereas we have volumes and possibilities for biomethane to help achieve #RED2030 targets and the ambitious #Fitfor55 objectives today. - #REDIII comes with a lot of challenges; we are about to see how different member states will shape the rules on eligibility of #biofuels and specifically biomethane. - Initially we expect more regulatory complexity, but with the introduction of the Union Database a move towards some harmonisation. - We are hopeful that the launch of the Union database will provide the necessary assurance that no double claims occur for sustainable molecules. As an active participant in the energy transition, Vitol is invested in a number of #biogas projects globally, like ViGo Bioenergy, a sustainable fuel (#BioLNG, #BioCNG) and service station provider for heavy transport in Europe: https://lnkd.in/eHMtjH_s

Last week Michael Ivanovitch, #Carbon emissions originator at Vitol participated in the Bank of America Business #Commodity Markets in the #Energy Transition Conference 2024 adding his insight to the panel ‘Trading: Where do carbon prices go from here?’ Commenting on the last year in the market he explained that “last year came down to fundamentals, total #emissions were down (16%) year on year and #power emissions down over 20%, delaying the bullish scenario”. Looking ahead he commented that, “Trading the carbon market will be different; the phase out of free allocation of #EUAs to industrials will increase activity through auctions and in the secondary market, and the hedging behaviour of industrials tends to be different to utilities players”. “Couple that with the shift to #renewable energy which makes EUA trading very weather dependent, and you get quite different dynamics that traders will need to adapt to”. Vitol International Shipping CEO, Kit Kernon was part of the thought-provoking #APPEC session, ‘#Commodity supply chains in crosshairs - from geopolitics to #decarbonization’. On decarbonisation the story is one of nuance – a journey that needs to be carefully considered and appreciates the fundamental role that #shipping plays – neatly highlighted by the fact that shipping moves 90% of the world’s industry, but is responsible for 3% of #emissions. Shipping is very efficient, and offers solutions for companies to decarbonise for example by switching the transport of goods from air to shipping, so it’s important that this efficiency is not lost, as decarbonisation goals are pursued. Kit was clear that, ‘shipping is taking ownership of its direction – shipping companies are very adaptable, but clarity of policy and #regulation is key for a smooth #transition.’ Talking about Vitol’s own decarbonisation strategy he commented, ‘we are fuel agnostic – rather we consider short, medium and long-term – what is actionable now and what is aspirational.’ On what is actionable now, ‘#LNG has a path that you can chart to #netzero – it might not be the chosen goal, but it’s an interim to take meaningful steps towards decarbonisation. ' 'That’s why we’ve invested in LNG #bunkering vessels with 3 on order. We currently own 22 bunker barges and are able to offer the suite of solutions from conventional fuel, #methanol and #biofuels. And we also have investments in #biogas in the US and Europe as part of our commitment to biofuel.' 'Aspirationally we see a space for synthetic gas and equally a place for #ammonia – but as a liquid tradeable molecule on a wholesale basis we think ammonia will take a bit of time.’ For more on our fuels and decarbonisation solutions, visit Vitol Bunkers https://lnkd.in/ehD45U-g
