Read the reflections shared by Zaffra CEO, Jan Toschka, after engagements this week at Farnborough Airshow, MFUG conferences and many other engagements. ✈ "In essence, we discussed what it takes and what to expect from the various players to accelerate SAF growth. 🤝 Given the significant capital requirement for SAF production, it is very encouraging to see many new funding partnerships between Airlines, OEMs and corporate customers being launched. It also underpins that SAF becomes ‘core business’ of this industry, similarly demonstrated by growing number of Airlines announcing ticket price increases to fund the cost for SAF. Well done! 📈 Needless to say that such price increase is an unpopular message to give to customers. That said, recently we have seen significant ticket price volatility (not to mention price for luggage, for avoiding middle seats, etc.) and still aviation keeps growing and growing. Passing on the SAF costs to the passenger’s ticket price is not only unavoidable, it will also reduce market (offtake) risks and, therefore, strengthen bankability of SAF production which is an imperative for aviation’s decarbonization. Great to see further recovery and strong push to decarbonize aviation. I would just like to comment on the expectation that “large Oil&Gas companies should produce more SAF”. (An expectation expressed at several gatherings very recently.) Obviously, there are a number of large O&G players investing in SAF production and this is indeed very much needed! Not to mention their trading, blending, distribution and (in some cases) into-plane operations. All of this is instrumental for bringing SAF to the market and decarbonizing aviation. That being said, looking at latest market developments and drawing conclusions from the conventional business (how much JET is actually produced by those who sell it to airlines), it might be a very reasonable assumption that a significant share of SAF will (need to) come from other/smaller producers in future. (I said the same when I was running Shell Aviation - no surprises here.) This also needs to be reflected in how the ecosystem collaborates and how, in particular, risks are being jointly mitigated. Funding structures, feedstock supply, etc. come to mind. Good news, we start to see this trend. All of this is encouraging and very much required to ramp up SAF production from a much broader group of producers. More to come! Zaffra Shell Aviation

✈️ Zaffra helps to accelerate the decarbonisation of the aviation industry by pursuing multiple technology pathways to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)! 🌱 🔬 One such pathway, HEFA (Hydro processed Esters and Fatty Acids), utilizes waste fats, oils, and greases (FOGs) from vegetable and animal sources. 🥦🐄 Another, the Power-to-Liquid pathway, harnesses sustainable carbon sources like carbon dioxide and renewable electricity to craft SAF. ⚡ 🌍 Learn more about our approach at www.zaffra.com ✨ #SAF #Zaffra

Earlier this week, the Zaffra leadership team visited Sasol's Research and Technology team at their Fischer Tropsch (FT) fuel production plants in South Africa. We were impressed by the technology focus and dedication to continuously improve yields and efficiencies -the scale of the plants, what an experience! We jointly explored the advancements in FT Technology and its opportunities for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production. Zaffra’s positioning which combines Sasol’s FT experience with Topsoe’s proven carbon emission reduction technologies will deliver an even greater potential to reduce cost and improve scale of advanced Bio/Power to Liquid (BtL/PtL) pathways of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production.
