Ocean Access

Ocean Access was one of three emerging companies in Trøndelag to receive the Entrepreneurial Grant from Adolf Øiens Fond. The grant was presented during the region's largest business event, Manifestation 2024, organized by Næringsforeningen i Trondheimsregionen (NiT). Andreas Mauritzen and Fredrik Lilleøkdal from Ocean Access received the grant from Gry Haug Binde, CEO of the Adolf Øien Foundation. In addition to Ocean Access, two other exciting technology companies also received this year’s Entrepreneurial Grant. In-Motion Technologies has developed a tool for the early and precise detection of symptoms of cerebral palsy in newborns. Aimses has developed a smart sensor that can monitor the health of electric machines in everything from wind farms to cars and airplanes – detecting faults before they occur. Ocean Access is a member of both the Ocean Autonomy Cluster and FI Ocean Space Incubator. 🌊 Diving into the future of ocean technology at Oceanology International 2024! 🌊   Last week we were in London and attended Oceanology International for the first time. This event is a goldmine for staying up-to-date on ocean technologies and seeing the latest developments in underwater robotics, sensors, and communication platforms. It was great to connect with existing collaborators, as well as expanding our network and making new connections. 🤝 This was a terrific experience for us and has opened doors to exciting possibilities. Check out our submersible buoy deployed at a salmon farm! We recently tested our buoy with Bjørøya AS at one of their fish farms, where our buoy was programmed to profile and collect temperature and salinity data for 3 weeks. Our goal was to validate the buoy's performance in real-world conditions and demonstrate its potential to the aquaculture industry. This test was a success and the initial results have been promising, demonstrating our buoy's capability to provide detailed water column profiles and real-time data collection. As our team are striving to fill the gaps in precise and consistent underwater data capture, this test also showcased that it is possible to provide a more cost-efficient and reliable solution for vertical profiling measurements for the aquaculture industry. We are excited about the potential of this technology and are actively looking for partnerships and collaborations. We are very excited to share our recent tech sprint and demo with Norwegian and US Special Forces! 🇺🇸 🇳🇴 In October we got a unique opportunity to participate in an integrated technology sprint that ended with a live demonstration in Horten, Norway. Organised by the Norwegian Armed Forces, Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt - FFI, the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and Liberty Alliance, this collaboration gathered tech innovators, soldiers, and industry experts to experiment with disruptive technologies fit for Arctic conditions. The demo focused on military communications in contested areas, where adversaries try to discover and sabotage communication networks. Here we successfully demonstrated our submersible buoy working together with other marine technologies within autonomy, surveillance, and communications. After being air-dropped by a helicopter, our buoy was activated to rise to the surface to transfer and receive data. This experience exceeded our expectations by offering valuable insights, fostering new connections, and unveiling potential future opportunities. Furthermore, it highlighted our capabilities as an emerging interoperable undersea technology alongside other sensor systems and devices in a subsea mesh network. This week we deployed our data buoy at Kelpinor’s seaweed farm at Vedskjæran! 🌊⚓ Our buoy is equipped with sensors for measuring temperature, salinity, chlorophyll, and turbidity, enabling kelp farmers to make operational decisions based on real-time ocean data. This pilot aims to model biomass growth and optimize harvest timing, and is part of a joint research project in collaboration with Kelpinor and SINTEF Ocean, supported by RFF Trøndelag.
