We’re delighted to announce our plans for the Summer of 2024. The "Abel Tasman" is embarking on a 4-month sailing expedition across the Northwest Passage! We’ll be setting off from Bergen, Norway in early June, to sail across the Atlantic Ocean to Iceland and Greenland where we’ll spend a couple of weeks exploring the glaciers and wildlife on the western coastline. We will then navigate our way through the Northwest Passage, hoping to arrive in Alaska by late August / early September (subject to the ice). Our 9-person crew includes a film director and producer, explorers and adventurers, ocean divers, para-gliders, an expert sound recordist, and young scientists. We’ll be exploring the glaciers, ice-floes and wildlife from the surface of the ocean with the yacht and in kayaks, underwater with our scuba diving equipment, and in the air with our motorized paragliders. For this, we’re partnering with leading scientists and universities, and among other goals, we'll conduct the first testing and analysis of microplastics in the Arctic Ocean between Greenland and Alaska in partnership with The Ocean Race. The crew will publish daily updates online in various forms, making it possible for anyone interested to engage with the expedition's activities … more details to come. The Lofoten Hope Initiative that we launched last summer will be core to our mission of protecting and restoring the Arctic Ocean. www.adventureyachtco.com #30by30 #LofotenHopeInitiative #LofotenHopeSpot #ArcticOcean #oceanconservation #oceanscience Prof. Johan Rockström, Sylvia Earle, Isak Rockström, Alex Rockström, Brita Staal, eva karlsson, Alexa Firmenich, Felipe Fernández, Gemma Corrigan, Dee Yang, Ted Janulis, Nina Jensen, Ying Qin, PhD, Prof. Dr. Martin R. Adventurous sailing expeditions to the world’s wildest destinations on the legendary Bermuda Schooner, the "Abel Tasman"
Om oss
The Adventure Yacht Company was founded by sustainability expert, adventurer and explorer, Keith Tuffley, inspired by a sailing & skiing expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula in 1999 with the legendary, high latitude sailor, Roger Wallis. Following this experience of unmatched wilderness and adventure, Keith started the Adventure Yacht Company to offer adventurous, life-changing sailing experiences to the world’s wildest and most remote destinations. (Keith is a Fellow of the Explorers Club and is the first person to cycle from the Antarctic coast to the South Pole.) The "Abel Tasman" has been with us from the start of the Adventure Yacht Company. We have sailed all around the world - including Antarctica, the North West Passage, Alaska, Greenland, and Svalbard - showing our guests the unique virtue of exploring nature by sea. She is a magnificent, hand-built, 75-ft Bermuda Schooner yacht, designed to be the ultimate adventure vessel capable of sailing to the wildest places on Earth. In 2022, we started to offer “Sail and Science” trips, with brothers Isak and Alex Rockström as our captain, first mate, and expedition leaders. Isak and Alex have sailed all their lives, racing, instructing and crossing oceans together. They are Climate Science students at the University of Bergen in Norway, and joined us at the Adventure Yacht Company with the opportunity to combine their two passions of climate and sailing. With their resources from university, scientific counsel from Professor Johan Rockström, and with Keith Tuffley advising on sustainability in the business and finance world, we set out to create an adventure experience connected to nature and with a strong environmental purpose.
