🌿Recap of our plenary session: A Pathway for Protecting Our Planet. Planetary scientists, conservationists, educators and explorers came together to discuss A Pathway for Protecting Our Planet. Humanity and the planet are interconnected – we are all part of the ecosystem – and small changes by individuals can make a big difference. 👉Youth sentiment about climate change is not all outrage and anxiety; systems thinking can be used as a pathway to sustainable resistance. 👉Conservation and sustainability depends on three factors: food, finance and engaging young people, the displaced and indigenous communities. 👉We all have a part to play: small changes (such as eating less meat and flying less), can make a difference. Movements bring change. 👉Education needs to adapt and embrace systems leadership. Schools need to create interdisciplinary structures and a personalized and passion driven education system which is focused on sustainability and mental health, inclusivity and connection to nature. 👉We need to incentivize and entice people to make decisions that are friendly to the life supporting systems on which we depend. Recap of our plenary session Harnessing the Power of our Planet’s Stories 📽️🌎 Storytelling is as old as humankind. In a world of AI it’s a leadership tool that’s as important now as it’s ever been to inspire action towards a net zero and nature positive future. 🍃 Storytelling through documentary filmmaking and science-based journalism can change the way we think, feel and act towards safeguarding the Earth. 🍃 If you want to make the world equitable you have to tell people’s stories, so grab your audience’s attention by finding ways to emotionally and intellectually engage with them through narrative and emotion. 🍃 Know your audience - whether it’s people watching a massive Netflix documentary or a film for a tiny room of policymakers tasked with deciding our futures. 🍃 To reach the key decision makers who will determine the future of the planet you have to frame the story on what they care about - and that may be money. There are 1.3 billion adolescents in the world today, who make up 16% of the 8 billion people on our planet. Integrating youth in global discussions is vital for the transition to a net zero, nature-positive future, as they will inherit and shape the world of tomorrow. We are thrilled to harness this potential thanks to our growing network of +380 #VillarsFellows by learning, sharing ideas, and collaborating together. Inspiring changemakers like Zlata Shama, who joined the Villars Fellowship Program in 2022 and participated in the #VillarsSymposium 2024, exemplify the innovative spirit of our community as we welcome our new 2024 cohort. #VillarsSymposium #naturepositive #netzero International School of Geneva
