Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar are key to solving the #climatecrisis. However, they are inherently variable and are already challenging grid and price stability. Grid connected batteries can help with this, and we expect that these solutions will be rolled out at large scale in the coming years (and already play a significant role in California). Anders Brennhagen has worked on developing new materials that will improve the #sustainability of future #battery #technologies! Khrono | The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

Vi gratulerer Kavliprisvinnerne 2024! // Congratulations to the Kavli Prize Laureates 2024 Åtte forskarar i atrofysikk, nanovitskap og nevrovitskap blir heidra med Kavliprisen 2024. Eight scientists from three countries are honored for their research that has broadened our understanding of the big, the small and the complex. The laureates in each field will share $1 million USD. The 2024 Kavli Prize recognize groundbreaking science for the discovery and characterization of extra-solar planets and their atmospheres; foundational research integrating synthetic nanoscale materials for biomedical use; and the localization of areas in the brain specialized for face recognition and processing. – The Kavli Prize 2024 honors outstanding researchers doing fundamental Science that moves the world forward. Earlier this week around 20 researchers from Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN, UiO) gathered to discuss future directions for battery research. Emerging battery chemistries is a strategic thematic area at SMN, and this get-together is part of our effort to leverage the broad competence across our centre to establish new research directions. One area of articular interest is in-situ and in-operando characterisation of the structural and chemical evolution during operation. Thanks to Alexey Koposov for organising, and to Anders Brennhagen, @Calliope Bazioti, Ola Nilsen, Truls Norby and Petra Szilagyi for their contributions! Final day of our visit to Taiwan! Today was a bit more relaxed, with a visit back to National Tsing Hua University where Stian Svelle gave an invited talk in the Department of Chemistry. Afterwards we visited the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Centre (NSRRC) where Deputy Director @Der-Hsin Wei and @Chia-Hao Chen welcomed us and gave us a tour of the facility together with Yu-Chun Chuang. Impressive facility and capabilities for both materials science and life science, in particular the high resolution XRD capabilities. Thank you to Chia-Min Yang for organising the visit for us and to the staff at NSRRC for showing us around!
