What would YoungShip Oslo be without our volunteers? 🤔 The answer is simple: 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴! YoungShip Oslo is all based on volunteers and this year we are happy to have about 30 young professionals contributing with work force to provide a solid meeting ground for the younger professionals in the industry. Without the dedication from these individuals we would not be able to host such high-level events that inspire and evolve the industry. Each volunteer plays a crucial role, bringing unique skills and perspectives. For that, we are grateful. Achieving net zero by 2050 - Is it truly feasible? 🤷 July 2023 IMO decided on the historical climate change revision, MEPC-80, to reach net zero by 2050. Since then, we have witnessed the first ship-to-ship transfer of ammonia, commercial sale of charging technology across borders, and the introduction of new software solutions like Emissions Connect. Additionally, resources such as the maritime forecast by DNV have been proposed to guide the industry. After yesterdays event, Young Environmental Seminar, we can confidently say that we have achieved significant milestones. However, we do face some challenges, but it will be possible to overcome them if we continue implementing effective incentives and bridging the price gap. Thanks to all the speakers, to our sponsor, DNV, and to Norwegian Shipowners' Association (Norges Rederiforbund) for providing us with an exceptional location and catering. 📸 Martin Riseth #netzeroby2050 #maritimeindustry #youngship

Do FuelEU and EU ETS properly incentivize a transition to green shipping?🚢 Yesterday Thommessen invited YoungShip members to their office for an eventful evening. The topic was the well discussed regulations, EU Emission Trading System (ETS) and FuelEU. While the EU ETS introduced a cost on CO2 emissions to incentivize companies to lower their greenhouse gas emissions effectively, Fuel EU will set requirements for the phase in of renewable and low carbon fuels. Together, these two regulations will boost the demand for low-carbon fuel and incentivize the use of biofuels, eventually leading to an increase of green newbuilds. Furthermore, it offers environmentally conscious shipowners the chance to benefit from the opportunities. By 2030, it will become challenging for fossil fuel users, and legal assistance will be needed to make informed decisions. Thanks to Thommessen for a great evening! 📸 Martin Riseth #YoungShip #FuelEU #EUETS

🌟 Earlier this month, we celebrated YoungShip's 20th anniversary at ShipCon, with Wallenius Wilhelmsen as a new contributor and title sponsor! This year, the event was organized by YoungShip Oslo, bringing ShipCon to Oslo. YoungShip, a non-profit for young professionals in the maritime industry, gathers experts every year at the ShipCon conference. At ShipCon, we shared our ambitions, contributed to key industry discussions, and forged new partnerships with our peers. Christos Chryssakis, Head of New Energy, participated in the panel on decarbonization pathways, while Lene Bårli Wiederstrøm, Senior CEO Advisor, and Christian Holth, SVP Digital Supply Chain Solutions, gave a presentation on digitalization and decarbonization. 🌱 They emphasized how digitalization and decarbonization are vital for the future of shipping and logistics. This includes reducing energy consumption and CO2e intensity, and increasing the use of low GHG fuels like biofuel and methanol, with the goal of offering a net-zero services by 2027. Lene and Christian also talked about "rewiring our core infrastructure" to build a digital-first operation and create new ecosystems that connect the industry. ⚡ By orchestrating data across the supply chain, we create more efficient logistics networks. At the same time, we’re progressing toward net-zero with biofuels and our Reduced Carbon Service, delivering significant emissions reductions for our customers. 🌿 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eVhGYcmc https://lnkd.in/eNhd95qF
