Fighting for Fair

About us

2degrees is a full service telecommunications provider. We launched in 2009, significantly lowering the cost of mobile for Kiwis, but we've actually been around a little while longer. Back in the 90s a visionary group of Maori challenged the crown through the Treaty of Waitangi and won the rights to 3G spectrum. Despite financial and regulatory adversity a Maori Trust (Hautaki) was established with the challenge of launching New Zealand’s third mobile network. Since then, we’ve been busy. We have built a brand new mobile network, helping us to cover 98.5% of the places Kiwis live and work. In March 2015 we also acquired NZ's fourth largest ISP (Snap), and now offer internet services as well as mobile to Kiwis across the country. We all really believe in what we are trying to accomplish for our customers and New Zealand. We’ve even been lucky enough to be recognised for it along the way, with a number of awards for our customer service over the years.

We all love sport, and we know it’s more than just a game. The lessons learned on the field or court stay with you for life. However, the playing field for women’s sport is not always fair. We know women’s sport gets less media coverage, less funding, less resources, and at younger levels girls are twice as likely to drop out of sport. That’s why 2degrees is committed to fighting for fair for women and girls in sport at all levels.  At 2degrees, we have invested in partnerships with the four Super Rugby Aupiki teams, the Tania Dalton Foundation, and Basketball New Zealand’s Women and Girls transformation programme. We see so much value in getting behind Women in sport, both from a community level and as a strategic investment. We encourage any company looking at sport sponsorship not to overlook women teams and leagues. That why we have proudly launched a new platform called "SupportHER Club" that captures all of the work we have done and are doing in our committed to fighting for fair for women and girls in sport at every level. • We’re excited to announce our partnership with AST SpaceMobile, the company building the first space-based cellular broadband network designed to connect directly to everyday smartphones—no special hardware or software required.   Through this collaboration our aim is to enhance 2degrees’ mobile coverage by bringing broadband connectivity via satellite to areas beyond traditional networks from 2026. To support this innovation, we’re investing in our own dedicated ground station right here in Aotearoa. Our CEO Mark Callander shared: “This partnership will extend our network reach and provide customers connectivity in places that our cellular network doesn’t serve. What is particularly exciting about our partnership with AST SpaceMobile is that they are going straight to cellular broadband connectivity, not laddering through text, then voice, then data.” As we navigate real-world testing and regulatory processes, we look forward to making space-powered mobile connectivity a reality for 2degrees customers from 2026. 🔗 Read more in our media release: https://lnkd.in/dDSgsMaF

  • At 2degrees, we've always been about fighting for fair. As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, we're proud to have sponsored Big Bloom for Women 2025! This marks the fourth global hackathon for women we've run - supporting incredible organisations that are dedicated to empowering women, including Shine, YWCA , Dress for Success Auckland, and now Women in Sport Aotearoa (WISPA). Last Thursday, 18 passionate people from across 2degrees, together with some fabulous external people from Foodstuffs New Zealand and Douglas Pharmaceuticals, joined forces in the hackathon to tackle a challenge for WISPA. We were honoured to have Nicky van den Bos and Merran Brockie-David from Women in Sport Aotearoa, Shanee Kiriau and Dani Marshall with us, providing invaluable insights and serving on the jury to select the winning solution. Thank you to Gergana David for another flawless execution! After a day filled with learning and fun (and guided by the knowledgeable coaches Josette Owen, Marc Jacquemin and Jodie Shelley), the teams presented their innovative solutions to the jury. A huge congratulations to Team 3 for their winning solution – we can't wait to see it in action!

  • The 2degrees team hit the pavement for Southern Cross Healthcare Round the Bays on Sunday, embracing the sunshine, the energy, and the incredible spirit of giving! 🏃♂️☀️ Whether we were running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, it was an unforgettable day spent connecting with colleagues and supporting a fantastic cause. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and those who backed us along the way! Special thanks to Amelia Kay and Eva Thomson for organising such an incredible 2degrees space and yummy food for the team to enjoy afterwards. 💙 #RoundtheBays isn’t just about crossing the finish line—it’s about making a difference. Over the years, this event has raised more than $3.5 million for causes close to Kiwis' hearts. This year, we’re part of rallying behind the Make-A-Wish Foundation New Zealand and other incredible charities with Round the Bays having an ambitious $400,000 fundraising target across the series of runs. Proud to be part of a movement that brings people together for good. See you at the next one! 💙

  • We kicked off our International Women’s Day celebrations early with an inspiring event featuring Olympic gold medallists Lucy Spoors and Brooke Francis! 🏅 As the first rowing crew of mothers to win gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Lucy and Brooke are true trailblazers. They shared powerful insights on resilience, dedication, and the importance of strong support systems—both in elite sport and in life. We also launched our Women@2degrees Awards, celebrating the incredible wāhine at 2degrees who inspire us every day. Creating an inclusive and supportive workplace is a commitment we take seriously at 2degrees. 💙 A huge thank you to Kathy Meads FCA, Mark Callander, and Emma-Kate Greer for supporting this event and to everyone who joined us.

  • Over the weekend, three of our Business team members - Julian Smith, Ian Pringle, and Scott Page – kicked off their incredible journey from Cape Reinga on the “Postie Bike Challenge.” Their mission? To ride 2,500km all the way to Bluff on 109cc Honda Postie bikes, which max out at just 80km/h. This isn’t your average ride – it’s a true test of endurance and spirit, taking them 12 days to complete and with an important goal. Along the way, they’re aiming to raise $20,000 for Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ - Te Kāhui Mate Pukupuku Repe Tātea o Aotearoa Manatōpū, a cause close to their hearts. As Julian, Ian, and Scott note, “We are all males over the age of 50 and statistically any one of us has a high chance of being impacted by Prostate Cancer. This journey was originally conceived as a few mates on an adventure, but we quickly realised it was something people wanted to get behind and Prostate Cancer was a logical charity for us to support.” 💙 You can support their fundraiser here: https://lnkd.in/gGyCAP5x And if you want to follow their journey and see how they're doing, check out their Instagram: @postie_bike_challenge 📸 Best of luck, Julian, Ian, and Scott – we’re all cheering you on! 👏💙

  • We’re thrilled to welcome our 2026 cohort of graduates, who are kicking off their journey across our Technology and Corporate teams. They spent last week onboarding with our incredible Senior OD Advisor, Grace Kowalenko, and are now rotating through different teams over the next 18 months, bringing fresh energy, ideas, and perspectives. Our graduate programme helps us build specialist talent for critical skills needed at 2degrees while fostering a more diverse and innovative workforce.  Grads, we’re looking forward to being part of your journey!

Today we farewell our summer interns who’ve spent the past few months with us at 2degrees. From tackling real-world projects to bringing fresh ideas and energy to our teams, they’ve made a real impact – and we couldn’t be prouder! Whether they were diving into data, solving customer challenges, or shaking up the status quo (true 2degrees style 😉), they’ve shown curiosity, resilience, and a drive to Fight for Fair in everything they did. Our intern ambassadors, Sophia Fox and Jamie-Lee Bird, challenged them to create a solution to enhance our social media presence and boost visibility and customer engagement. They attended workshops to equip them with new skills and then, over 10 weeks, they worked together to come up with strategies to achieve this. Yesterday they presented their incredible strategies to a panel of judges including Aaron Smith, Haley Featonby, and Andrew Fairgray. To our interns: We hope you leave with new skills, great connections, and fond memories. Keep being awesome – and who knows, maybe we’ll see you back at 2degrees one day!
