Did you know that construction and demolition waste makes up 30% of landfill waste? 🌍 Auckland is aiming to be zero-waste by 2040 and reducing deconstruction waste is a key part of that goal. At Eke Panuku, we’re rethinking the way we remove buildings at their end of their lives or no longer needed. Instead of demolishing, we carefully take them apart to reuse and recycle materials wherever possible. ♻️ This approach isn’t just better for the planet—it’s cost-effective too! Creating amazing places throughout Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland.
About us
Eke Panuku Development Auckland is Auckland Council’s urban regeneration agency. We manage a $3 billion portfolio of land and buildings owned by the council, looking for ways for these assets to work harder for the city. We are not developers ourselves but we act as a catalyst for smart partnerships. We work with the community, local boards, private sector and other government agencies to deliver stronger neighbourhoods where affordable housing, communities, business and transport are well planned and sustainable. From small projects that refresh a site or building to major transformations of town centres or neighbourhoods, our goal is always the same: creating amazing places throughout Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland .

Roxanne Haines, our Principal Strategic Placemaker, is pleased to be joining a panel of experts at the NZ Green Building Council (NZGBC) on 17 October, to share her insights on what makes ‘a place’ work. The ‘Places’ topic is part of a seven-part series on future proofing non-residential buildings in accordance with the new framework for ‘Green Star Buildings’. Roxie will speak to how using our placemaking approach, we at Eke Panuku, support the creation of safe, enjoyable integrated and comfortable places within our urban regeneration work. In the heart of Northcote, a modern, multi-purpose community hub is on its way! Check out the latest designs below. The existing heritage-listed library building will be upgraded and expanded, so the library, Plunket, Hearts and Minds, Northart and the Citizens Advice Bureau are together in one location. Next door, Puāwai Cadness Reserve is also being upgraded as part of Te Ara Awataha, Northcote’s new greenway. From early-mid-2025, Northcote Library will temporarily shift into a smaller space at 1 Ernie Mays St, so construction can start, from mid-late 2025 to 2028. We’re delivering this project on behalf of Auckland Council, and in collaboration with Kaipātiki Local Board, to help Northcote to continue to thrive. https://lnkd.in/gXAiZ75M Auckland Council Kaipātiki Project Northart

Last Saturday, students from Bayfield School (a primary school in Herne Bay) came down to the Eastern Viaduct to paint a mural they’d designed. 🎨👩🎨👨🎨 The theme was ‘Our Thriving Moana’. 🌊✨ As well as providing a splash of color, we think this original artwork is a great reflection of the seaside splendour of Tāmaki Makaurau. 🌅🏖️ It’s also a reminder of our commitment to ensure our development projects benefit future generations to come. 🌱💪 Find out more about our next big harbourside project, Te Ara Tukutuku: https://lnkd.in/gQNCXt23 🌟🚀 Auckland Council Sara Zwart Ariane Craig-Smith Heart of the City
