Čoarvemátta is one of five nominees for the Norwegian Building of the Year Prize, which will be awarded on April 3rd 🏚️✨️ Located in the middle of Finnmarksvidda, Norway's largest and northernmost plateau, the shared facility of The Sámi National Theater Beaivváš and the Sámi High School and Reindeer Herding School opened last year. ⁠ ⁠ Shaped as the strongest and innermost joint of the reindeer horn, the building symbolizes two elements that unite, and honors the Sami tradition of reindeer herding and duodji - Sámi handicraft - both traditions that focus on utilizing resources that in most contexts are considered waste.⁠ ⁠ The building's exterior features standing wood cladding made from ore pine, while its expansive roof is covered with 34,000 meters of kebony. Inside, the decor incorporates a palette inspired by Sami color usage, showcasing vibrant shades of red, blue, yellow, and purple.⁠ ⁠ This ambitious project was developed in collaboration with 70°N Arkitektur, @Joar Nango and the entrepreneur @Econor AS for @Beaivvas and the Sámi High School and Reindeer Herding School, @KUNST I OFFENTLIGE ROM KORO. In 2024 our design team partnered with Promenaden to develop a new brand universe spanning visual identity, verbal tone, experience, and digital presence. The ambition was to encompass all that the Oslo-based property company manages—including office spaces, retail, and cultural initiatives—into one unified brand universe, not simply to refresh the aesthetics but to express Promenaden’s growing role as an urban curator. Work has broken ground on Snøhetta-designed Shibuya Upper West Project, approximately 119,000 sqm mixed-use development for Tokyu Corporation, L Catterton Real Estate, and Tokyu Department Store. The project has been developed in collaboration with Nikken Sekkei Ltd and Ishimoto Architectural & Engineering Firm as Executive Architects. The breaking ground ceremony took place on March 11, 2025, and construction is set to be completed in 2029. Located in Shoto, Shibuya Upper West Project (SUW) will be a unique node between the bustling Shibuya Scramble Crossing, the cultural neighborhoods and the quiet residential area of Shoto. This cultural, mixed used redevelopment sits on the former Tokyu Department Store's flagship store and features a hotel, rental residences, retail amenities, and the relocated and expanded The Bunkamura Museum of Art. Designed as a single volume, Shibuya Upper West Project gracefully spirals and ascends from ground to sky. The design concept draws inspiration from the image of a single stroke, symbolizing the pulsating energy of Shibuya. Envisioned as both a landmark and landform, SUW will be visible as a green destination in Tokyo. The project aims to achieve the highest possible sustainability ratings. Capturing stunning views of Mount Yotei, NOT A HOTEL Rusutsu’s minimal form is informed by the surrounding mountainous terrain and the sharp site boundaries. Two linear volumes sit perpendicularly, one above the other, each gently curving to dip at the center. Snøhetta’s design concept for the project draws inspiration from the zenith — the highest imaginary point above a specific location on the celestial sphere. The façade of the Cité Administrative d'État is a modern reinterpretation of the architectural character of Lyon's Part-Dieu district. Inspired by the district's iconic buildings, the design features a modular system that ensures visual coherence and functional efficiency. A set of four repeating façade modules allows for flexibility in window placement, optimizing natural light while managing solar exposure to prevent overheating.⁠ ⁠ The façade's rhythmic design adds depth and movement to the building, creating a subtle kinetic effect that changes with the light and perspective.⁠ Prefabricated elements play a key role in the façade's construction, improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact. By assembling large modular sections off-site, the project minimizes disruption in this dense urban area while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship.⁠ ⁠ The material palette echoes the tones of Part-Dieu's architectural heritage, blending neutral and earthy hues to ensure seamless integration. Snøhetta will teach three forthcoming high-level training courses at YACademy Bologna, starting at the beginning of June. Martina Maier, architect and sustainability specialist in Snøhetta's Innsbruck studio, will teach "Wood Architecture.” Furthermore, Snøhetta partner, Martin Gran, will be involved in the courses "Concept Design for Architecture” and "Design Management.” Applications are open until March 14th. We are happy to present Mellom, Stockholm's new and green meeting place in Hagastastaden! ⁠ ⁠ These two L-shaped buildings and the public courtyard they form, will together total 50,000 square meters with offices, labs, public spaces and a multifunctional sports and cultural facility. ⁠ ⁠ While the outer facades considerately meet the municipality’s regulations related to Stockholm's stone city, the backyard is organic, playful and innovative. A green passage extends diagonally through the project and reinforces the city's green network.⁠ ⁠ The basement floor will house a sports center for KFUM Central, and the ground floor will be filled with restaurants, retail and culture. On the top floors, there will be offices and laboratories for the life science industry.
