With 3 weeks to go before the premiere wind energy event of 2024, we are pleased to confirm the following panel speakers at this year's event:
Hon. Max Bradford, Phil O'Reilly ONZM
Hon. Max Bradford, Phil O'Reilly ONZM and Kerry McDonald - Company Director, Economist & former Comalco/Rio Tinto Senior Executive.
Facilitated by Brigid McArthur, this panel discussion will traverse the Think Big policies and whether these policies have been a success for the country, and are they relevant in today's world.
In the 1970s, the Muldoon-led Third National Government faced an ailing economy and a series of crises in oil supply. When Bill Birch became Minister of Energy in 1978, he looked to the large petroleum reserves in and offshore Taranaki as a key tool to kickstart economic recovery and growth.
Thus the Think Big Projects were spawned, projects from which New Zealand still benefits in many ways. Think Big had downsides though, and itself spawned Rogernomics, the effects of which we are also still feeling today.
