Redefining concrete NZGIF CEO Sarah Raudkivi Minhinnick and Investment Manager Emma Hardie CA enjoyed meeting Neocrete co-founders Zarina Bazoeva and Matt Kennedy-Good recently, in Neocrete’s Auckland laboratory. NZGIF has invested $1.2m into Neocrete. The equity investment was part of a $6.5m seed funding round led by Wavemaker Partners, Singapore. Icehouse Ventures has also invested in the business. Neocrete is focused on decarbonising concrete. Neocrete’s additive activates materials, such as volcanic ash, so they can replace cement in concrete, avoiding the carbon intensive processes required to manufacture cement. The manufacture of cement accounts for 8% of global greenhouse emissions. Neocrete is proven in real-life projects in New Zealand, including the award-winning Bader Ventura medium density housing project in Auckland, built by the New Zealand Ministry of Housing, Kāinga Ora. Neocrete's latest generation additive can reduce cement in concrete by 30-50%, with no loss in strength, while increasing its durability. Neocrete is one of four companies recently chosen from 70 applicants worldwide to run trials with members of the Global Cement and Concrete Association. The GCCA represents 80% of cement and concrete manufacturers outside China, responsible for about half of the word’s concrete. Jenny Lackey Edward Montague Isabelle P. Affordable renewable energy for 20,000+ New Zealand households. NZGIF CEO Sarah Raudkivi Minhinnick and Investment Director Waruna Karunaratne enjoyed meeting SolarZero, CEO, Matthew Ward recently. Matt demonstrated how the SolarZero solar panel and battery storage system works, in this case for a home in Auckland. Solar energy currently makes up around 1% of New Zealand’s delivered electricity. Transpower New Zealand predicted in 2020 that this would rise to 13% of New Zealand’s delivered electricity by 2050, under a scenario where electrification of the economy is accelerated. The distributed nature of rooftop solar energy, like that provided by SolarZero, is important for community resilience and decarbonisation. SolarZero is a partner in the NZGIF Solar Finance programme, which has now, via a second debt issuance, made a total of $365m (NZD) available for medium to long term debt to solar providers. In addition to $90m of private sector debt sourced in September 2023 from First Sentier Investors and Natixis Investment Managers, Societe Generale Corporate and Investment Banking - SGCIB has financed a further $130m of available debt into NZGIF’s Solar Finance programme. NZGIF has invested $145m into the programme. The new solar lending will further finance Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest residential PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) portfolio, managed by SolarZero. The total lending will help provide access to affordable renewable energy for 20,000+ New Zealand households. Last week at the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) conference, it was announced the development of a sustainable finance strategy for Aotearoa New Zealand. We look forward to working with Centre for Sustainable Finance: Toitū Tahua to contribute to the development of a cohesive framework aimed at accelerating the flow of private capital towards the net zero transition.
CSF welcomes the announcement by Minister of Climate Change Hon. Simon Watts at the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) Conference Aotearoa NZ 2024 yesterday that the New Zealand Government is partnering with us to develop a sustainable finance strategy for Aotearoa New Zealand. The strategy will provide clarity on the Government’s priorities to increase the flow of domestic and international capital for sustainable and transition opportunities. Sustainable finance can help Aotearoa New Zealand to: - Reduce greenhouse gas emissions to maintain our access to international markets - Seize new growth and productivity opportunities - Responsibly manage our natural resources - Build a resilient economy that can adapt to future shocks. The strategy is expected to consider opportunities to align New Zealand with developments in other countries including Australia, Singapore and the United Kingdom which have similar initiatives. It is expected to provide a cohesive framework that is recognisable to international capital providers and guide related areas of work including the development of green taxonomies and innovative sector financing work aimed at accelerating private finance. Congratulations Sunergise - great to be working with you!
Sunergise Shines Bright at SEANZ Awards 2024! We're thrilled to announce that Sunergise, a 100% Kiwi-owned solar power company, has won TWO prestigious awards at the Sustainable Energy Association of New Zealand (SEANZ) Awards 2024! Best Grid-Connected PV System winner! Our Mānawa Bay project, New Zealand's largest rooftop solar power system, received the Re/volve Energy Best Grid-Connected PV System Award. Mānawa Bay, a 5 Green Star rated building, involved the installation of over 35 km of electrical cable and 4,600 solar panels. It showcases our commitment to large-scale electrification and local expertise. The system was meticulously designed to maintain the roof warranty, ensuring sufficient clearance beneath the panels for cleaning and providing strategic access to inverters and cable trays for future servicing and maintenance. Ethical considerations were integral to the project. By partnering with ethical provider Maxeon and rigorously assessing the supply chain, the team ensured that suppliers adhered to strict standards regarding human rights and labour practices. Best Large Business winner! We're also honoured to receive the SMA Best Large Business Award, recognising our excellence in the renewable energy sector. The judges commented, "Sunergise's unique PPA offering sets them apart" and "Their commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainable solutions makes Sunergise worthy of recognition." "Their engineering team has tackled some challenging installations and come up with elegant solutions" and "They have an obvious imperative to invest in quality assets, producing systems that will last." Following the awards, Our COO, Rogier Simons, reflects: “I’m super proud of the team for winning both awards. This achievement truly reflects what Sunergise is capable of and highlights the exciting future ahead as we continue to build lasting renewable assets for our customers." Sunergise Managing Director Paul Makumbe adds: "We are incredibly honoured to receive these awards. This recognition reflects the hard work, dedication, and innovation of our entire team at Sunergise. We're committed to driving sustainable energy solutions for a greener, more resilient future." To our team, partners, customers, and supporters: Thank you for being part of our journey. The scale of financing needed for the #EnergyTransition in Asia Pacific is immense, and the challenge of sourcing funding is significant. The #GlobalCapitalMarkets can provide scalable and more liquid solutions. The use of deal structures, formats and risks that are familiar to institutions all over the world allows developers and operators to tap a broader investor base – even when they are applying those techniques in novel ways. The first-ever #SolarSecuritisation in New Zealand for solar developer SolarZero, through its participating in the New Zealand Green Investment Finance Solar Finance programme, could serve as a template for Asia Pacific. Arkady Lippa, our Co-Head of Securitisation & Fund Financing for Asia Pacific, and Nicolas CHEVALLIER, our Director, Securitisation & Fund Financing for Asia Pacific explain how capital markets solutions can provide the scale of funding needed for Asia Pacific's energy transition. 👉https://lnkd.in/gkpHViqA

New Zealand Green Investment Finance has increased its investment into Ruminant BioTech to $4.5million. 36% of New Zealand’s greenhouse gas emissions come from dairy and beef cattle.* If we help them, they will help us achieve the low carbon future our country needs. Ruminant BioTech has demonstrated impressive results, with the latest trial on cattle showing a 75% daily methane reduction for 100 days from a single bolus treatment. We want better decarbonisation options for Kiwi farmers (and their cattle). We want to accelerate investment into New Zealand’s low carbon future. This is how we’re doing it.
