A significant milestone for aquatics infrastructure in the South Island has been reached, with construction of the 50-metre competition pool now underway at Christchurch’s Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre. The installation team is currently assembling the pool using materials shipped from Myrtha Pools in Italy. Every component has a code allocated to it and a plan that specifies which area it goes in, so it's like a big Meccano kit. There are over 500 panels that make up the pool and they are held together by over 10,000 bolts. It will be a very versatile pool, with a movable boom that will allow Christchurch City Council to adjust the pool's length and transform it from a 50-metre Olympic-sized pool into two separate 25-metre pools as needed. The competition pool will also feature a state-of-the-art movable floor at one end, designed to vary the pool depth from 2.2 metres for competitive swimming to ground level, ideal for events and dryland activities. We’ve been assisting the Ministry of Justice - New Zealand for a while with plans to seismically strengthen the Auckland District Court building and replace some of the building services that are at the end of their useful life, but it’s always great to get boots on the ground and see site entries and laydown areas established. LT McGuinness Ltd. has set up this week in the very narrow Kingston Street, which runs alongside the building. From here personnel will be able to make their way up to the building’s podium level, where the materials that will be used can also be hoisted up to. A key focus for the project is to keep what is the largest courts facility in the country operational throughout the works. So, working from the exterior podium level is just another way we can go about achieving this. #infrastructure #delivery #Auckland

Exciting Announcement for Infrastructure Delivery! Today, the Minister for Infrastructure has unveiled a significant shift in how we manage infrastructure projects. From December 1, Rau Paenga will be mandated to act as the Crown’s delivery agency for organisations with low infrastructure delivery capabilities. This move promises enhanced consistency and efficiency in project execution across the public sector. For these yet to be identified Crown organisations, Rau Paenga can offer a comprehensive suite of client-side delivery services. These include support with business case development, project leadership, delivery oversight, and contract management throughout both design and construction phases. Infrastructure delivery is complex and commercial. By leveraging the expertise of Rau Paenga, Crown organisations can focus on their core missions—serving New Zealanders—while we reduce the burden of project delivery. This shift will streamline processes and ensure the private construction sector engages with a knowledgeable and experienced client. We are excited about this enhanced role and look forward to sharing our expertise more widely, making the Crown a more effective client in infrastructure development. #infrastructure #newzealand

Construction of a 50-metre competition swimming pool isn't something you see too often in New Zealand, so it's great to be able to share with you a little look at how the pool at Christchurch's Parakiore Recreation and Sport centre is coming along. The pool is made up of over 500 stainless steel panels of different shapes and sizes, which are currently being set out. The panels will then be aligned and permanently fixed in place to create the frame for the pool. The drainage channel, vinyl floor and moveable boom will then be installed. The pool is being supplied by Myrtha Pools. Like the court flooring, Myrtha has supplied and installed pools at the Paris Olympics. Christchurch City Council CPB Contractors

The Olympic Games may be underway in Paris, but flooring of the same calibre is being installed at our Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre project in Christchurch. 🏀🏐⚽ The 110 x 45m community courts area has enough space for six indoor netball, basketball, or futsal courts, along with line markings for volleyball, badminton, korfball, floorball and handball. Installation experts, hardwood technology limited, say that the community courts space alone at Parakiore is among the top five largest single-floor court spaces in New Zealand. The floor is so large that a 42mm gap is left around the outside because that’s how much the beech timber will expand by, now it has been unwrapped and exposed to the humidity. The sprung battens that support the floor sit on 36,500 wedges and rubber pads, that take much of the impact out of the players’ joints when they’re running and jumping. As the 37,800 linear metres of timber for the community courts is laid, it is nailed down with around 110,000 nails. Then the lines will be marked out and the area coated with 500 litres of polyurethane, to protect the surface. Parakiore also includes a 2891m2, three-court, show court, space for elite level or televised events. Two of these courts can be covered by retractable grandstands to create a 2500 spectator space. #infrastructure Christchurch City Council CPB Contractors WARREN AND MAHONEY

It's great to welcome LT McGuinness Ltd. to sign the construction contract for the Auckland District Court remediation project that we are delivering for the Ministry of Justice - New Zealand. Built in 1985, the 28,000m² Auckland District Court building comprises a five-level podium structure and a nine-storey tower above. The building houses 28 courtrooms, which represent 10% of all courtrooms in New Zealand and 33% of those in the city. It is a crucial part of the justice system and must remain operational throughout the remediation process, which will fully commence next month #infrastructure
