2 Years have passed since I accepted to become Head of People & Culture in Aptoide. It was such a big and exciting decision and I'm so happy and thankful for being able to embrace it...✨ At Aptoide I've been meeting incredible people and professionals, who live Aptoide's Culture and Projects with all of their hearts and dedication. It's an environment of intense accountability, integrity and collaboration focused in more than its products, but also in a great and fair mission ! In May 2014, this email triggered Aptoide's first complaint in Brussels against Google's abuse of its dominant position. One of the four key points was the recent ban of Aptoide from Google Play, which made it much harder for users to find and install our App Store. Less than a week ago, I was on a panel with the CEO of Epic Games, the GM of Epic Game Store, and the founders of AltStore, discussing the future of app distribution. Despite being an optimist, I couldn’t have predicted what was ruled today by a US court. More than 11 years after that email, a landmark decision has been made: a US judge has ordered Google to allow other app stores on Google Play in the US. Alongside legislation in the EU, UK, and Japan forcing Apple to open iOS, this is one of the most important rulings for the future of a healthy mobile ecosystem. The judge's ruling zeroes in on what I believe is the core issue: balancing the network effects of Google's long-standing dominance. But there’s still one challenge: between legislation and court decisions, we need to convince Google and Apple to stop introducing friction at install time, under the false pretext of user safety—especially when the OS itself knows these apps are safe. Inside Google and Apple, there are people who know this is the right path, and that healthy competition will ultimately make Android and iOS better ecosystems. It’s an incredible honor to represent as an evangelist for the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and share insights on its game-changing impact for developers and their revenue strategies, particularly in Europe. The DMA, introduced by the EU, is set to reshape the digital landscape by fostering competition and limiting the influence of major tech players. This opens up exciting opportunities for game developers, especially through third-party app stores and alternative payment systems, offering new ways to drive revenue. In my talk, I’ll explore how the DMA will transform the industry and dive into how Aptoide's iOS version plays a key role in this evolving ecosystem.
