Exploring new research frontiers in ICT towards a global innovation ecosystem
Sobre nós
The Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program is a platform for education, research and innovation that brings together Portuguese universities, research institutions and companies, in cooperation with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). The partnership was launched in 2006, and was renewed for another five years in 2012 until 2017. Its mission is to place Portugal at the forefront of innovation in key focused areas of Information and Communication Technologies, by promoting cutting-edge research, world-class graduate education and a close collaboration with the Portuguese industry. Its activities are funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, supported by the Conselho de Reitores das Universidades Portuguesas, and co-financed by business partners and by CMU. The program leverages a vibrant research community, a solid and close partnership between faculty at Portuguese universities and at CMU, a strong collaboration with industry, and a deep integration in international knowledge networks. The key instruments of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program are: talent development of faculty, students and professionals from the industry, through dual degree Ph.D. and Professional Masters programs, and a faculty exchange program; research and innovation in potentially commercializable technologies, through multidisciplinary projects carried out by integrated teams from universities and companies, with an orientation towards new products and services for international markets; the inRes Program; and industry collaboration through an Industry Affiliates program. These instruments are applied in focused areas of ICT where Portugal can gain competitive advantages, continuously under discussion in the scientific and industrial communities.

As I eagerly await the launch of PROMETHEUS-1 aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 – Transporter 12, I’d like to take this opportunity to share a video of the satellite’s integration at Alba Orbital’s facilities. You can get a closer look at PROMETHEUS-1, learn more about PocketQubes in general, and see the other PocketQubes that will be sharing this journey. For easy identification, PROMETHEUS-1 is the purple satellite in the video. More updates coming soon... --- PROMETHEUS-1 is the result of the project "PROMETHEUS - PocketQube Framework Designed for Research and Educational Access to Space" (ref. CMU/TIC/0017/2021), supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) under the International Partnership @CMU Portugal, in a consortium between Universidade do Minho (PT), Instituto Superior Técnico (PT) and Carnegie Mellon University (USA). --- TEAM: - Universidade do Minho/Escola de Engenharia da Universidade do Minho (Pedro Andrade) - Instituto Superior Técnico (Rodrigo Ventura; Rui M. Many years ago, when we set up product management at Feedzai, it was really hard to find professionals in Portugal. There were almost no product companies in the country, no universities or institutions were teaching it, and there were no people with skills available. At the time, people would not even understand what I meant by "Product Management". Today, the situation is completely different, not only in terms of companies developing products but also in terms of talent. Feedzai has certainly contributed a lot to the ecosystem by training many of the professionals now active in the market. The CMU Portugal Academy is taking this one step further, training experienced industry professionals from various companies in what it takes to build successful products. This is what the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program is all about—contributing to a more vibrant, entrepreneurial, and successful Portugal in information technology.
👨🏻🏫 What an incredible start to the academic year! We’ve just wrapped up the first module of the CMU Portugal Academy post-graduate course on Product Management, kicking it off with a focus on Discovery and Value Testing. 🚀 We started strong with Paulo Marques, Co-founder at Feedzai, who brought an inspiring session grounded in his extensive real-world experience. His insights on navigating product-market fit not only highlighted the challenges but also offered actionable strategies that left students with a deeper understanding of this critical stage. 🕵🏻♂️ Oren Zuckerman, our course director, led students through best practices in qualitative user research. From mastering user interviews to quick lo-fi prototyping, Oren’s sessions provided hands-on experiences that seamlessly bridged theory with practical application. 🚙 Closing out the module, we had the pleasure of hosting David (Dudu) Noy, VP of Growth at Placer.ai and former Product Lead at Waze. David shared fascinating case studies, illustrating how to strategically leverage ecosystems to drive meaningful growth — a perspective that truly resonated with the class. It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch students dive into these topics, eagerly engage with the content and start to build the foundation for their future product journeys. Returning to Instituto Superior Técnico in this new capacity has also been especially meaningful. I’m grateful for the chance to give back to this vibrant community. Very excited for what’s ahead! Stay tuned ;-) #productmanagement #teaching #productdiscovery #valuetesting
