We have joined CIRED (International Community on Electricity Distribution) Serbia in Kopaonik on the invitation of Serbian Distribution System Operator (Elektrodistribucija Srbije doo Beograd).   Prof. Dr. Goran Dobric presented a detailed model of prosumer integration in Serbia, focusing on how solar energy systems can both produce and consume electricity. This work, supported by GIZ, aims to help create regulations that will encourage households to install solar panels, accelerating the energy transition for everyday citizens.   Marcus Merkel, a Senior Advisor at a major German Distribution System Operator (DSO) and a Strategy Consultant for GIZ, highlighted the importance of Distribution Network Development Plans (DNDP) for DSOs in the Western Balkans. His focus was on the need for investment in people, funding, and infrastructure to handle the increased demand from renewable sources like wind and solar. DNDPs are critical for both internal planning and external coordination with governments and international donors, helping secure the funds needed to modernise and expand power grids using smart technologies. He emphasised, "Power grids cannot get strong and smart enough."   Green Agenda: Decarbonisation of the Electricity Sector in the Western Balkans, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) addresses the growing demand from key stakeholders in the regional electricity sector for solutions related to technology, regulations, and human resources to facilitate an environmentally and climate-friendly energy transition.   #CiredSerbia2024
