🌍 Making the Case: Why Funders Should Invest in Food Systems If you had to convince a major funder to prioritize food systems as a top investment area, what would your key argument be? Littlefoot Ventures and the Global Philanthropy Forum explored this question in the webinar "Securing the Table: Tackling Risk in Food Systems through Collaborative Philanthropy." Led by food systems expert Eva Goulbourne, the conversation underscored why food systems are one of the most strategic, high-impact areas for philanthropic investment. About 34% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from our food system, and food-related emissions are projected to rise by 50% over the next 25 years. Yet, agricultural productivity remains the lowest of any region, limiting opportunities for rural communities. But across the continent, entrepreneurs are pioneering new solutions to change this. 💡 Wissal Ben Moussa, Co-founder & R&D Officer of Sand to Green, is harnessing agroforestry and technology to transform deserts into sustainable farmland. “It’s cliché, but I dream of a green desert—or at least green zones with stable ecosystems where new techniques complement ancestral know-how.” 💡 Samuel Rigu, Co-founder & CEO of Safi Organics Ltd., is decentralizing fertilizer production to boost farm productivity. “In Africa, we pay 2 to 5 times the world price for fertilizers. Our goal is to make it locally, ensuring farmers access affordable, soil-specific solutions.” 💡 Francis N., Founder of Keep IT Cool | Earthshot Prize Winner 24, is building cold storage solutions to reduce post-harvest losses. “Before, fisherfolk lost up to 40% of their harvests.
