About us

AKADEMIYA2063 is a pan-African non-profit research organization with headquarters in Kigali, Rwanda and a regional office in Dakar, Senegal. Inspired by the ambitions of the African Union's Agenda 2063 and grounded in the recognition of the central importance of strong knowledge and evidence-based systems, the vision of AKADEMIYA2063 is an Africa with the expertise we need for the Africa we want. This expertise must be responsive to the continent’s needs for data and analysis to ensure high-quality policy design and execution. Inclusive, evidence-informed policymaking is key to meeting the continent’s development aspirations, creating wealth, and improving livelihoods. AKADEMIYA2063’s overall mission is to create, across Africa and led from Rwanda, state-of-the-art technical capacities to support the efforts by the Member States of the African Union to achieve the key goals of the agenda 2063 of transforming national economies to boost growth and prosperity. Following from its vision and mission, the main goal of AKADEMIYA2063 is to help meet the needs of African countries in terms of data, analytics and mutual learning for the effective implementation of Agenda 2063 and the realization of its outcomes by a critical mass of member states. AKADEMIYA2063 strives to meet its goals through programs organized under five strategic areas—policy innovation, knowledge systems, capacity creation and deployment, operational support, and data management, digital products, and technology—as well as innovative partnerships and outreach activities. AKADEMIYA2063 leads the work of four core programs. They are: (1) the Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS), (2) the African Growth and Development Policy (AGRODEP) Modeling Consortium, (3) the Malabo Montpellier Panel (MaMo Panel), and (4) Africa Agriculture Watch (AAgWa).     CACCI FIELD NOTES Vulnerability to Climate Change in Senegal! Since 2015, Senegal has been engaged in the process of developing its National Adaptation Plan (NAP). In this context, assessing household vulnerability to climate change is an important step to identify medium- and long-term adaptation options. The aim of this brief is to provide household vulnerability assessments to support the design and implementation of ongoing climate adaptation actions. To this end, the authors have followed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) framework to estimate the composite Vulnerability to Climate Change (VCC) Index. Cattle production is vital to Nigeria’s livestock policy, but inefficiencies in production are limiting profits. Over three insightful days, the 2024 ReSAKSS Conference brought together high-level state and non-state actors to engage in knowledge sharing, policy dialogue, and strategic discussions on the latest Annual Trends and Outlook Report (ATOR). Hosted by AKADEMIYA2063, the African Union for Housing Finance (AUHF) Commission’s Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment (AUC-DARBE), and the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS), the event tackled critical issues at the intersection of climate change and food systems.     The 2024 ReSAKSS 2024 Annual Trends and Outlook Report (ATOR), the official monitoring and evaluation report for the CAADP, recognizes the high- priority status of climate change on Africa’s development agenda. The 2024 ATOR calls for a systematic and well-designed strategic approach to address the challenges while tapping into the opportunities. The ongoing efforts to equip Africa with a new 10-year CAADP strategy (2026–2035) to implement the post-Malabo agenda present an opportune moment for African leaders to align the CAADP goals and ambitions with emerging initiatives such as the implementation of countries’ United Nations Food Systems Summit national pathways, revision of existing NDCs in 2025, and the Global Bioeconomy Summit in October 2024, hosted for the first time in Africa.
