For the second year, Future Mobility contributed to Sweden's efforts to promote participation at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Over 120 Swedish tech and mobility companies were involved in this initiative. Operating as “Team Sweden”, together with Teknikföretagen, Electrification Hub, KPMG Sweden, Embassy of Sweden in USA, Vinnova, and Business Sweden, we gathered relevant Swedish companies to attend CES, matched them with relevant United States business partners, guided first-time visitors through the easily overwhelming CES with its 140,000 visitors and 4500 exhibitors and helped to position Swedish innovation at the forefront of global mobility advancements. What a successful and inspiring day at the Nordic Autonomous Innovation Summit in Mountain View at our friends Volvo Innovation Hub! The day was structured with a system perspective to understand the deployment of Autonomous Driving (AD) from multiple angles: technology, policy and regulations, business models, public acceptance, and infrastructure. Panels included key organizations and experts such as the California DMV, California Public Utilities Commission, Uber, Pony AI, Ericsson, Volvo Cars, AstaZero, and the Swedish Transport Agency, alongside thought leaders like Bryant Walker Smith and representatives from cities and public transport agencies in the Nordics and the U.S. This created a collaborative space to share insights and foster innovation. While the approaches may differ—“US innovates, and EU regulates”—the summit demonstrated the power of dialogue and collaboration across regions to advance autonomous mobility. Next steps? Let’s keep collaborating, sharing, and learning from one another. Perhaps the next event will take place in the Nordics—let’s make it happen! If you’re interested in being part of this conversation or exploring partnerships, let’s connect. Together, we can drive innovation and create sustainable solutions for autonomous mobility. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event successful – from the speakers to the participants and everyone in between: Marcus Rönngren Liu, Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative), Maggie Oren, Innovation Lab by Volvo Group, Jenny Simonsen (She/Her), ITS Norway, Andreas Reschka, Pony.ai, Adam Laurell, Västtrafik, Endre Angelvik, Ruter As, Dmitriy Vanchugov, Uber, Jan Hellåker, Future Mobility, Terra Curtis, California Public Utilities Commission, Miguel Acosta, California Department of Motor Vehicles, Gry Horne Johansen, Statens vegvesen - Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Katarina Noren, Swedish Transport Agency, Henriette Cornet, Urban Innovate, Patrick Burt, City of Palo Alto, Mikael Ivari, City of Gothenburg (Göteborgs Stad), Kai Kristoffersen, Vy, Andreas Netz, Vinnova, Mathias Riback, Ericsson, Fredrik Åkeson, AstaZero, Mikael Thor, Rivian, Lena Westervall, Volvo Cars, Jon Seneger, Innovation Norway The Nordic Autonomous Innovation Summit was organized by: Nordic Innovation House - Silicon Valley, ITS Nordic+, Innovation Norway, Vinnova, Future Mobility, GTI, ITS Norway and Volvo Group.

Future Mobility has granted funding for a new innovation project, Road Condition Data. Klimator, a Swedish leader in applied road climatology, in partnership with the American meteorology data company Synoptic Data, a Public Benefit Corporation, seeks to adapt Klimator’s road climatology models to the unique challenges posed by the United States road infrastructure. Currently, Klimator’s Road Condition Data (RCD) platform is widely used across Europe in sectors such as winter maintenance and automotive, delivering real-time, localized road weather data. By working closely with Synoptic, Klimator aims to enhance this data by integrating it with local weather and sensor information in the United States. The project will improve road condition predictions and optimize vehicle performance for autonomous driving, electric vehicle (EV) efficiency, and shared mobility services. “Collaboration is key to driving innovation and tackling complex challenges. By combining the core expertise of Synoptic and Klimator, we unlock new synergies, enabling the development of solutions that would be unattainable independently. This partnership not only accelerates progress but also inspires creativity and resilience in pursuing our shared goals” – Viktoria Bogren, Head of Automotive at Klimator and the project manager for Road Condition Data. The project, funded by Future Mobility, will run from 2024 to 2025, and aims to establish more accurate road condition models tailored to conditions in the United States. This initiative also strengthens collaboration between Sweden and the United States, driving forward innovation in sustainable mobility solutions. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dzuAvR5h

A guide to Sweden – United States partnerships within sustainable mobility In a move to support partnerships between Swedish and United States-based innovators, the Future Mobility initiative has developed a handbook that offers insights on how to collaborate across the Atlantic. The handbook is based on two workshops where a total of 29 innovation leaders shared their experiences of Sweden–United States collaboration. “This document was developed in close collaboration with Swedish and American project managers, who are or have been involved in a Future Mobility project.” – Josephine Darlington, Future Mobility. The development of the new handbook was led by Josephine Darlington, Future Mobility, together with Swedish and United States-based actors who collaborate or have collaborated with support from Future Mobility. It outlines practical steps for mobility actors looking to establish joint projects. It serves as a roadmap, helping Swedish and United States actors understand key aspects of working with partners across the Atlantic, from initial matchmaking to securing funding and managing a collaboration project. How Future Mobility Supports These Collaborations Future Mobility, a publicly funded initiative, offers free services to actors interested in forming innovation partnerships with the United States or Sweden. The support includes practical matchmaking, funding guidance, and strategic advice to help projects get off the ground. By offering these resources, Future Mobility aims to lower the barriers to collaboration and ensure that Swedish and United States-based actors can effectively engage in transatlantic innovation projects.

David Gundlegård, Anna Danielsson and I had the opportunity to conduct a research visit to Xtelligent in Los Angeles last week as part of the project "Dashboards for Decision Support in Highway Congestion Management" last week. This initiative is part of Vinnova Future Mobility program aimed at strengthening the cooperation between actors in Sweden and the USA in the field of mobility. The project focuses on developing decision-support tools for managing highway congestion, data visualization to support transportation agencies in addressing traffic challenges. This visit provided valuable insights into the current Xtelligent product, and opportunities to discuss how our sketch of dashboards for traffic monitoring and incident management can be designed, contributing to the advancement of the project. We look forward to continuing this work and further exploring its implications for highway congestion management. Thanks to Michael Lim, Richard Pelletier and Isabel Li at Xtelligent for hosting our visit in LA. We also had the possibility to pass by at UC Berkeley for a seminar ( https://lnkd.in/d3UBdaFb )
