🏡 Industry as a neighbour - Living next to the world’s first CCS cement plant Next door neighbour shares her experience of living close to the ground-breaking CCS project in Brevik Norway. Meet Heidelberg Materials representatives and subcontractors during the final stages of completing the plant that will capture CO2 and produce cement for net-zero concrete. #heidelbergmaterials #BrevikCCS #CCS #Langskip #evoZero Read more about Brevik CCS 👉 https://lnkd.in/e7J4Ks_p

  • Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Anders Danielsson, President and CEO of Skanska to our plant in Slite. As Skanska recently signed an agreement with us for #evoZero, which is the first #CCS cement to be produced in an industrial scale in Brevik, Norway, it was extra valuable to be able to demonstrate the Slite plant. We presented the plan for a CCS facility in Slite from 2030 - an industrial transformation project that will reduce carbon emissions by 20% in the Swedish construction sector. This will allow us to build with concrete with practically no climate impact across Sweden. 🏗🏡 (read more at www.sliteccs.se/en) We also talked about the increasing development of climate-enhanced cement products by combining cement with alternative materials (#SCM). It was clear that Heidelberg Materials and Skanska share the view of the importance of dedicated work from all actors along the value chain to manage the transition. 🔗

📍 Important milestone today: Skanska and Heidelberg Materials pave the way for sustainable construction with evoZero and net zero concrete 🌍 #evoZero is the first cement in the world to be produced using carbon capture technology #CCS, which removes CO2 from the production. Today, an agreement was signed between the two companies.✏️ "The concrete we produce and use in our construction business accounts for a significant part of our total climate footprint. Therefore, it feels completely right that we are one of the first actors in the construction industry to sign an agreement for Heidelberg Materials' groundbreaking cement," says Magnus Persson, CEO of Skanska Sweden. "It is very positive that Skanska, as one of the leading construction companies, together with us wants to be at the forefront of sustainable societal development. Together, we are now accelerating the climate transition in the value chain," says Giv K. Brantenberg, General Manager Heidelberg Materials Northern Europe. From 2025, Heidelberg Materials' cement plant in Brevik, Norway, will start capturing carbon dioxide from cement production and supply evoZero cement. In parallel, we are working to establish a CCS plant four times the size in Slite, Gotland (www.sliteccs.se/en) Read the full story 👉 https://lnkd.in/dzEX2rxd #BrevikCCS #SliteCCS

Advancing electric transport at Heidelberg Materials 🚛🔋 Transport plays a crucial role in our value chain, offering significant potential for introducing electrified solutions to reduce emissions⚡. Last summer, we were involved in a customer pilot of the L120H Electric Conversion in Slite, Gotland, gaining valuable insights. Today, we are excited to announce the arrival of the first L120H Electric Conversion in Sweden! This zero emission machine vehicle will be integral in managing alternative fuels for the heating of the cement process, further minimizing the climate impact of the production. 🏭 With our operations running around the clock, reliable logistics are essential. The new wheel loader can operate for 5 hours on a full charge and recharges within 80-90 minutes. This is one of many electric vehicles to further the decarbonization of our value chain. • 📣 We are sharing the word! This week we had a great pleasure to meet EU Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra when he visited Stockholm. In collaboration with Skanska and Volvo Construction Equipment, a visit to the ‘Slakthusområdet‘ construction site was organised – an area planned to become a sustainable and urban neighbourhood south of the city. The location is also a test bed and demonstration of the current and future fossil-free construction sector. Giv K. Brantenberg, General Manager Northern Europe and Karin Comstedt Webb, Vice President of Heidelberg Materials Sweden, took the opportunity to talk about the company's world leading role in the climate transition of the cement sector. In Brevik, Norway, the first large-scale carbon capture plant is currently being built, and in Slite, Sweden, we are planning to capture up to 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 annually from 2030. "We had a very fruitful dialogue with the Commissioner where it was clear that we share the view on the need for significant climate action, and that large-scale CCS is key element for the construction sector's target of net-zero emissions - both in Sweden and in Europe," says Giv Brantenberg. Slite CCS is one of Europe's largest #CCS initiatives. The plant is planned for fully electrified carbon capture, with an innovative focus on bio-coal and electricity as energy supply with the potential to reach a carbon sink. With CCS in Slite, we will remove 4% of Sweden's carbon emissions in one go from 2030 onwards. Read more at 👉 https://www.sliteccs.se/en
