Daaamn that was a fun!
After spending a precious few days in Rome last week with some of the creative industries brightest minds, we’re slowly starting to come back to reality. Big up to (Frontify, Digge Zetterberg Odh, Roger Dudler), all speakers and new friends that made this festival so special. It was a true privilege to meet so many amazing people. There was a lot of interesting takeaways. Some from talks, some from just talking:
Design with integrity -
Don’t get caught up in what you know your audience want; create what you actually want to put out there. (Matt Klein, Reddit Inc.)
Principles, not guidelines -
The best brands are based on context and principles to guide them rather than a strict rule book (Felipe Rocha & Leo Porto, PORTO ROCHA and Damien Correll, Figma)
The agency model is in flux -
Talent is everywhere, so why are agencies stuck in offices? After meeting Toni Hukkanen of FOR® Agency we got to learn a fair bit about how a 100% de-centralised agency not only works, but flourishes. We believe we’ll see a lot more of that model moving forward.
There’s no I in Team -
“Design Heroes are Over”. A fantastic statement. Anyone who works in this industry knows their design heroes. Their gods. It’s weird when you think about it; trying to find the unique from one singular point of view. Design should be the opposite; open, diverse, fun, playful and collaborative. Good riddance, heroes.
A great idea (still) reigns supreme -
Even though we’re in a tornado of new tools, AI, nano-trends and unparalleled personalisation, a great idea still holds great power. How that idea is realised is what is changing, and at lightning speed.
Thanks for good talks, late night cocktails and good vibes:
