We use our knowledge and convening power to strengthen water governance for a just, prosperous, and sustainable future
Om oss
SIWI is a water institute. We focus on a range of research and development topics within and around water that support decision-makers world. We believe that the best way to tackle water crises, and help bring about lasting change, is to strengthen water governance among public and private actors alike. SIWI’s strong, international team of knowledge-generators, convenors, facilitators, and trainers works to strengthen the systems and processes that govern access to and protection of fresh water, with the overarching aim to contribute to poverty eradication. SIWI also hosts several flagship programmes, including the UNDP-SIWI Water Governance Facility, the International Centre for Water Cooperation (ICWC), the Action Platform for Source-to-Sea Management (S2S Platform), and the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA). Through the Swedish Water House, we connect Swedish water stakeholders with each other and to international processes. This year at #COP27, we are proud to be a partner of the Water Pavilion, mobilising to put water at the heart of climate action. #Water4Climate

Many countries are dependent on shared #water to meet their needs. But the deepening #climate crisis necessitates stronger cooperation and promoting good #WaterGovernance. What more can be done? Here are five ways in which governments can step-up governance and leverage #WaterForPeace: 1️⃣ Recognize water is finite💧 Cooperation among nation states is essential to treat water as a global common, a need for all. 2️⃣ Build water management into climate action 🌐 Effective water management to tackle climate change can help regions alleviate potential reasons for unrest. 3️⃣ Use water as an entry point for dialogue 💬 Recurring water dialogues can establish sustainable relationships, that may also tackle larger security issues, should hostile situations occur. 4️⃣ Redistribute power 🔃 River Basin Organizations are key to water governance, as they provide a platform for information sharing, dialogue, and capacity development. 5️⃣ Decolonize water governance 💦 To maintain peace, governments must work actively working to rethink current approaches, including diverse views. More can be done to maintain #peace across borders, The deepening climate crisis further necessitates cooperation and promoting good governance. ⏩ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dVgcNE2Q --- #SIWI #WaterGovernance #WaterForPeace #BridgingBorders #WaterCooperation #WaterDiplomacy #WaterResources #SharedWaters #WaterSolutions #SustainableDevelopment #ClimateChange

How far can the Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) take you? We were recently moved by a powerful testimonial from Fabrice FANOU-ZIAKA, who represented #Benin in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition in 2004. Two decades later, Fabrice continues to make a remarkable impact in the #water sector. He is now organizing national competitions in his country and has developed a programme to support students in pursuing innovative environmental solutions. Reflecting on his SJWP journey, Fabrice shares: “Participating in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize is more than just a competition. It’s a transformative experience that encourages young people to critically engage with global water challenges and take meaningful local action.” This story is a testament to the lasting influence of #SJWP in fostering global leaders in water innovation. For water professionals, educators, and organizations, it highlights the importance of supporting young talent in the field. If you're an SJWP alumni or have supported young professionals in water, we'd love to hear your story. How has your journey evolved since your participation? ⤵️ Tell us in a comment. ---- #SIWI #StockholmJuniorWaterPrize #WaterInnovation #BridgingBorders #WaterStory #WaterInnovation #WaterLeadership #WaterSolutions #Africa #Innovation World Water Week

Land systems play a critical role in the regulation of greenhouse gases. 🌄 In Chapter 6 of SIWI's landmarck report "The Essential Drop to Net-Zero", lead authors Malin Lundberg Ingemarsson and Lan Wang Erlandsson explain how realizing the mitigation potential of land-based measures is not possible without available #freshwater and functional #water cycle dynamics. In a quick interview, they talk about the synergies and trade-offs of mitigation measures with water sustainability goals. 💬Read Lan's and Malin's interview ▶️ https://lnkd.in/dfWQifP7 📄 Check out the full report ▶️ https://lnkd.in/dzWqSNdx

More than half the world’s food production will be at risk of failure within the next 25 years as a rapidly accelerating water crisis grips the planet, unless urgent action is taken to conserve water resources and end the destruction of the ecosystems on which our fresh water depends, experts have warned in a landmark review. Half the world’s population already faces water scarcity, and that number is set to rise as the climate crisis worsens, according to our new landmark report from the Global Commission on the Economics of Water published on Thursday. #EconomicsOfWater SIWI - Stockholm International Water Institute Zambia Youth Parliament for Water World Agroforestry The World Bank Connect4Climate World Youth Parliament for Water The Nature Conservancy Nature4Climate COP29 Azerbaijan
